Computer Crew help with new build.

CPU
Intel E6700

Motherboard
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3

Memory
Corsair XMS 2GB DDR800

Primary Drive
WD Raptor WD740ADFD

Media Drives
2 Seagate Barracuda 320 PD

Video Card
BFG GeForce 7950 512mb

DVD Burner
NEC 18X

Case
Cooler Master Centurion

Power
SeaSonic 600W

Exhaust Fan
Silverstone 120mm

Would I notice much of a differenece between the E6600 and E6700? Its the extra $200 worth it for normal gaming and computer use? Am I missing anything?

Synthetic benchmarks show difference from few to 10 percent, on average 5 percent, between two when looking only at the CPU. However, real world difference, when more than one component of the system is involved (CPU + memory + video card etc) might be only few percent. That difference is not worth $200 IMO.

Only thing that you might be missing is quality power supply. You wouldn't believe how many instability issues can be traced back to power supplies. I don't know how good are SeaSonic but I do know that PC Power & Cooling is the name that has reputation of being best.

For normal use you wont notice a thing, besides with that setup you could easily overclock that core2duo up to those speeds without any voltage changes.

Everything looks good man. And that seasonic is an EXCELLENT PSU. It will serve you fine PPC and cooling is over rated in my experience.

Then get it through NewEgg if you are still entitled to same warranty as through PCP&C (5 years).

Re: Computer Crew help with new build.

Well finally got around to building it. Didn't purchase a highend video card or ram yet so I could have some money for the family cruise over new years.
Final Specs
Centurion 532 Case
PC Power and Cooling 600 Watt Silencer PSU
Asus P5B-E Mobo
E6600 Conroe
MSI GeForce 6200TC (Holding me over till I can get a eVGA 7950gt)
WINTEC 512MB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) - (Holding me over till 2gb of Corsair XMS)
74gb Raptor
300gb Seagate (Holding me over till I get a 2 500gb seagates)
NEC DVD Burner and NEC Floopy Drive
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Grease

Cheap video card and single stick of 512 for $80

Dell Keyboard and Mouse will have to hold me over until I get a G11 Keyboard and G7 Mouse

Got to love a 20" Monitor

Final Orgization of Wiring will be done after I get the video card and other stuff

Runs alittle warm with stock cooler, but Im going to get a better heatsink along with ram and video card.

Re: Computer Crew help with new build.

Seasonic is one of the quietest and most efficient PS around. You made a good choice.

CPU speed is now more of a marketing gimmick than anything else, pick a cpu that is good in price like at a stable price before the next series that has a signifciant cost increase. If you have noticed all the cpu manufacturers have stayed away from the MHZ number marking and gone to the performance rating scheme. CPU speed is almost nearing its max, but the marketing gurus need a speed increase every 3 months to sell the chips.
