I think that is simply because there are other choices available, for the same prices, at higher quality (namely Seiko 5s, Orient, Invicta, etc).
I *really* like Tissots, but there is no way I would risk an overseas transaction for one. Classybrand.com is far more reputable and has pretty good prices on Tissots. Can't really find better prices, without going to a really shady/risky market, like Ebay. For lower quality watches, I might risk it, but for anything nice, no way! The phrase "buying the seller" definitely applies to nicer items, like watches. I am wanting a particular Tissot Le Locle right now very badly!

As far as overseas ordering... the first Seiko 5 that I ordered was from bodying.com. They are in Malaysia and I was nervous about ordering. However, it was a VERY smooth transaction, I couldnt believe the package arrived so fast and I had daily shipping updates emailed to me which was comforting. The only thing is... if you look around you can find Seiko 5s within the US for the same prices or on par with at least. The last couple watches I ordered were from bluedial.com which has been a pleasant experience too.. and they are out of TX.

I think I know the answer to my own question...caveat emptor. | I had a Wenger Auto, it was a nice watch, ETA automatic movement, beautiful fit and finish, just got bored of it. They are a bit overpriced when compared to Seiko and Citizen, but IMO their quality is above Orient (the lower line) and the hit and miss quality of Invicta.
People in Singapore and Hong Kong are more watch crazy than many of us Autopians, if the guy has strong feedback and you aren't worried about having to return the watch for a warranty issue. I had a huge hassle returning my Tissot to an unauthorized dealer for some water leakage issues. What a PITA. Took two months to get the watch back, glad I had plenty of others to wear. | |

Can't go wrong with Seiko quartz and the Coutura line are really nice!

Now that I have one though, I can't decide if I like it or not. I was really wanting a 5 series automatic, but those are impossible to find in stores. Also, it seems that now that the Christmas shopping rush has passed places like Overstock have jacked their watch prices up to levels that are near what you would pay in stores. Anyway, any opinions on the kinetic Seikos? I think the 7S26 movement has a better reputation.

See if you can return it. I believe watches are like wallets.. if youre going to buy one for someone you HAVE to know exactly what they want. For the price of that Kinetic you can order a couple Seiko 5 Autos online.

The Kinetics are just not as appealing as the 5 automatic line, particularly among watch enthusiasts. I love my 5, even though it runs a bit fast and needs regulation! I was lucky enough to get my 5 (a Rolex style) on Overstock for $60 total, and now the exact same watch is selling for $100+ on the big O. I love it for the price, and it cannot be beat for value/quality! Mine has the usual 7s26 as well...

I had a 10% off coupon plus the free shipping so it was the cheapest I found at $309.00: Overstock.com: Seiko Arctura Men's White Dial Kinetic Chronograph Watch : Men's Watches
I needed a middle of the road watch; something to wear when I don't want to bang up my Rolex Submariner or look cheap with my Casio G Shock.
