I'd stay away from them personally...They're part of the Movado Group BTW...

Curious where you've heard of quality control problems with ESQ? They've been outstanding for me, bullet proof reliable. Movado is a great company.

Movado has gone through a few ownership changes, and as far as I understand, quality wasn't their top priority, money was...

I have no update on their quality right now at this moment, but I know people with ESQs that have been nice and trouble-free and others whose minute hand fell off and one whose crown didn't work at all....

It just sounds like taking a risk at a nice watch or a junk one. And when I'm spending money on a watch, I expect quality control to be a little higher...

That's all...I'm a big fan of the Swatch Group in general...they mostly use proven, reliable ETA movements(also a Swatch co.), and they have always produced excellent quality timepieces at reasonable prices, IMHO.

Citizen and Seiko also make very good quality watches for not a lot of money...

Have you been to Ross or TJ Maxx before? Ross usually has a lot of nice looking Kenneth Cole watches for less than $60, and TJ Maxx sometimes has high designer end watches at fantastic prices.

Overstock.com has some nice watch deals too, as I recall from another watch thread on here. I just found a Seiko Men's Pilot for $109. Good looking watch. It's amazing how much you can spend on a device that tracks something that doesn't even really exist outside of the minds of humans...

Anyway, anyone have an opinion on this watch? Nice and classic looking.

Very similar to that Seiko. I am loving the clear backs on those watches, very cool.

This thread made me buy this one

http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2....ROD_ID=1583103
This will be my first automatic.

Funny thing -- I was browsing through the watches after reading this thread on Friday night and that watch popped up for $44.99, plus this weekend was $1 shipping. I placed my order on Friday night for a total of $45.99, and then on Saturday I saw that the watch had went up to about $65. I started to wonder if Overstock plays pricing games, and lowers the price if you click on an item enough times to entice you to buy. I opened a different browser and spent quite a while clicking on the Seiko military style watches, but the prices never changed. I guess I was lucky to get that watch for $46. At least I feel lucky!

^^ no, I think maybe you're right.

I bought this watch from Overstock, and absolutely love it. It was my first "real" watch... a change from the $10 cheapo watches that I had been wearing. I absolutely love the chronograph feature... I'm into mechanical things so my next step will probably be an automatic

http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2....ROD_ID=1495249

I bought it for about $110, and I think it was also $1 shipping. I checked back a few days later and it was about $150! I'm glad I bought it when I did...

BTW, to the OP, take your time, and feel free to spend a little extra money if you can. Buy a nicer, more expensive watch rather than a cheaper watch - you'll thank yourself. Also, I'd skip Fossils .

I'm ready to upgrade to something a little nicer than my Fossil, but I have to say that it's been a great watch that does what it's designed to do. We can all sit here and debate how accurate our second hands are, but come on, I don't think anyone is REALLY keeping track of that. If you say you do you need a hobby.

I'm liking the looks of the Seiko stainless diver's watch automatic.

I;ve had my Tag for 3 years now. I set it to the atomic clock and it loses about 1 secind a month. Not a big deal.
The nice thing with a quality watch is that it will continue to look good for years. I wear mine daily and it doesn't have a single scratch on it, and I'm not nice to my hands and arms. The crystal on my Tag is insanely strong. I will also say that I have yet to replace the baterry after three years. Same goes for my wife's Tag which bought at the same time.
Save up a few bucks and get out of the Fossil watches and into the nice stuff. Worth every penny.

Yea I'm not trying to say they're trash watches; its just that when you are willing to spend a lot of time researching watches (and wanting to spend a bit of money), there are some nice options out there that are "better" (IMHO) than Fossil watches can offer.
