Just FYI, you may need to clear your Autopia cookies after the download. It may have just been coincidence, but after I dl'ed FF2, I was unable to get anything to come up for http://autopia.org. Once I cleared the Autopia cookies, it came right up.

does anyone know if they have fixed the memory handling in this version? It's possibly the only flaw with FF thus far, something they haven't addressed yet. There are two memory problems with FF that seem nearly universal for all users:

1) Major memory leak. I have 2 GB of RAM on my computer, and FF has taken up to 500 MB of RAM before!
2) Big lag when opening new tabs. Opening a new tab will cause everything in the browser to freeze momentarily, and while loading the page in the new tab, performance will suffer in the rest of the browser. This is true after a fresh insatll (before installing tab mix plus), after a fresh reformat of the entire operating system, etc., so I don't think it's anything else except firefox.

I'm going to give it a whirl! Wait, will this break my other extensions? It is a beta afterall, and I'm not sure if extensions have been updated yet..

Keep in mind guys that the spell checker will not work until you download a dictionary. It is listed in the release notes. When you right click in a text box you will see the option to add a dictionary. It is just like installing an extension...

Quote:
Spell Checking:
Dictionaries for several locales can't be packaged with the builds, and must be manually downloaded by selecting "Add Dictionaries..." on the shortcut menu. New dictionaries are regularly being added to Mozilla Add-ons, so if you don't see the particular dictionary you need, check back later. In future releases, users will be offered the opportunity to download dictionaries the first time they run the product (see bug 349945).
I have been using Firefox RC3 as well as IE7 and while IE7 is light years ahead of IE6, I still prefer Firefox...

You could try a FF extension called IE Tab. It puts a little icon down in the corner that you click on to toggle between FF and IE. It will actually render the current tab using the IE engine. I use it for the rare occasions (usually at work) where something doesn't work right for me with FF.

Mine was working from the get go. Unless the extension was already incorporated into the download?

Go to "Tools" and "Add-ons" and see if it is there. Not sure how yours worked without having to add a dictionary. The problem with packaging it with the install is that the dictionary would have to be huge to accommodate various languages. The release notes say it is going to be a one time operation to download the dictionary when you first start Firefox after installation. I seriously doubt they will package it with the install.

I don't have it in my add ons either. Hmm. <---that is underlined red to tell me the word is misspelled. That would be the dictionary right? If so I bet they just have it in the download now.

btw, for those of you still using IE, I find a good alternative (to those websites where you just *have* to use IE) is a browser called Maxthon. It's great, free, and not fully of spyware/adware. It's also highly customizable, although that's not really important anyways since its only my secondary browser to my secondary browser

Ahhhh I think I see why. The download page has all the distributions by language. The dictionaries probably are packaged with the install there. When I downoaded mine last week, there were no options to chose a language so the dictionary was likely not packaged in the install. I doubt they will distribute it by language when it is officially released...

Maxthon still uses the IE engine and is vulnerable to a lot of the same exploits that IE is. If you are worried about IE, Maxthon is only marginally more secure.

I am going to wait for the official release tonight before putting it on my home PC and see if there is any difference. I used to get this error/memory code all of the time and it seems to pop up more with the new version. It only happens when I am online with AutoCAd open though.
