Thanks, Pat.
There are still a few bugs to work through:
1. What to do about forums that require you to be logged in to look at their threads (Boo!). I collect the information, but it does very little good to link back to it if visitors can see the thread.
2. Threads have multiple entry points, which in-turn creates multiple URLs. This causes my database to have multiple records for the same thread. I'm close to having a master/detail record structure working.
3. Sometimes people come directly to Autopia.org from another forum by typing
www.autopia.org in their browser address bar. This gives a false indicator. Not sure how to solve this problem yet.
I have had my data collector running since June. I am amazed that there are 850+ car related forums on the web that have linked back to "Autopia". For more than half of these sites I have recorded all of their META data, which means you can do a keyword search for "mustang" and find the 47 different sites that are Ford Mustang related.
Over the next few days I will open up more of the information in the database for Autopians to use. I believe that we (Autopia), more than any other car community on the internet, cross all demographics (make, model, age, location, special interest) and should make this kind of information available.
