Join Date: Jul 2002 Location: Upstate, SC Posts: 1,716 | I think I am pretty set on the Hydra from Sector 9 for myself but, I am still up in the air as to a board for Josh. I don't think I am going to be able to find a complete for him that he will be happy with so I think I am going to have to build it myself. He just wasn't that thrilled with any of the boards we looked at.
He has been talking about wanting a board with flames. I am thinking of just getting a naked deck and either painting it myself or having it custom painted. I am thinking a black base with old school white/yellow/orange flames.
Any advice guys as to who makes a good, durable, light, quality NAKED deck??? Keep in mind he is mainly interested in street skating/tricks as the nearest ramp is an hour away. I would also like to keep the size down to something around 8"x28", wide enough for good control yet short enough to keep it light.
Thanks | |

Check out www.ccs.com
Get a complete setup - you won't be dissapointed.
And long boards aren't mean for tricks, they're meant for cruising..
PM if you have any questions. | I can second CCS. When I was skating I used to get most of my boards from them. Even though your son is young, I probably wouldn't get him a really short board. CCS will have different lengths, but most standard boards are in the 30" or so range (give or take a few).
Element and Hero have been two of my favorite brands. But, pretty much anything on CCS is going to be good.
Remember that when you get him a deck, the trucks, wheels, etc... should last him a few boards.

They seem to have the best assortment of decks that I have seen on any site and their prices seem lower as well. Believe it or not we are still trying to decide on a deck (he is only 7 and so far has shot down almost every deck I have shown him).
I think we have finally picked a deck though, it is by Popwar... http://www.utilityboardsupply.com/ge...r-v-i-deck.htm
I am going with an Alien Workshop deck.
I have decided to go in a different direction for my board than what I previously stated. I was originally going to go with a complete cruiser from Sector 9 but I decided to put together a board for myself that he could use if he should happen to break his. Eventually I am going to get an old school cruiser from Sector 9 though. http://www.utilityboardsupply.com/ge...lieve-deck.htm
For trucks I think we are going to go with Independant Stage 9 on both boards. http://www.utilityboardsupply.com/ge...tage-9-raw.htm
I haven't really poked around enough regarding wheels, bearings and the rest of the hardware yet to make a choice...

Mines in the middle, my son owns the ones on the outside. The one S9 on the right is brand new....

Nice collection there I got to thinking where would I ride a cruiser here where we live now. I should have gotten one when we lived in Orlando, I could have gone by skateboard to work every day. I think a cruiser is going to make a great second board for me. I am definitely going to get that S9 Hydra for myself before long.
Josh and I have been pouring over everything we can get hold of and have been pestering the guys at the local skate shop. I think we are close to getting everything together. To be honest I am getting excited about all of this and am not sure I can wait for Xmas myself
BTW, any suggestions as to bearing brands??? I am sure beginners like Josh and I probably wouldn't notice the difference between brands but, any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks | |

Anyways, sees like you got the perfect boards for what your son wants. The sector 9 decks are not for that. I use my sector 9 boards when I go carve down large hills in downtown San Francisco or going from class to class at school. Oh, and good choice on the bones swiss bearings, those are the best out there. Feel free to ask any questions!

Josh wanted me to do his first so the grip tape job didn't come out as well as I had hoped but, mine came out better It was dark last night when I finished putting them together so we didn't get much of a chance to try them out.
