What is a FREE firewall that works with Win98?

Anyone know of a quality FREE firewall program that runs on Windows 98?

I tried Zone Alarm, but read it is no longer compatable with Win98.

I reformatted my laptop from 8 years ago (Dell Inspiron 7500 PII 400mhz 384MB RAM) and am looking to sell it in my local online classifieds.

It's all reformatted and updated and want to finish off the security package of free programs I installed to go along with AVG anti-virus, SpyBot & Spyware Blaster.

It'll make a nice spare machine for someone for $175.00. Runs like a champ!

Buy a hardware firewall. You can get a D-Link 604 for not that much, it is a router with built-in firewall. You can just plug it in and it will work.

A software firewall on your computer is a bad idea. Think: why do you need a firewall in the first place? Because Windows is full of security holes... so it's not a good choice for being a firewall.

Zone alarm used to offer a free version.

You really want both a hardware firewall / router and a software router. WHile hardware firewalls block ALOT of attacks, they dont block key internet ports, which 99% of malicious programs use.

I suggest a Linksys or DLink router. FOr a cheep firewall that is the best out of my experience so far as an A+ tech, look up Panda.

I used to use Agnitum Outpost free edition on my old ME system; it seemed pretty good to me.

a good reason for a software firewall is to prevent "phone home" trojans/malware from getting back out...most of the consumer routers only block incoming traffic.
