what defects do you have that constantly annoy you?
i know many autopians on here take really good care of their cars, but i was wondering if there are any defects (dings, deep scratches, etc) that are beyond your control that you're constantly reminded about everytime you either wash, polish, or wax your car that you wish were not there?

How about a nice dime sized dent in the passenger side rear door.
And, a keying all the way down the driver side, from front to back and partially on the hood!
And, someone decides to hit my car in the lower driver rear door causing a nice crappy looking crease in the metal!
Yeah, I think these things are just about enough to annoy the hell outta me. Actually it really ticks me off that people are so jealous of other peoples stuff that they have to drag you down to their pitiful level to feel better about themselves.

All the rock chips on the front bumper really annoy me. It seems like they're a little worse everytime I wash the car. Nothing I can do about it either except get the front bumper repainted every year or two. Since my car's black I can see every little imperfection too.

My hood is so chipped to hell you can notice it when you're 3' from the car. Nice down to the metal chunks.
I have plenty of dings all above the door ding guards so I removed those useless things. My trunk lid has a 1/4" chunk of paint gone in the corner where my friends bike chipped it when he got a flat and I picked him up. I have a scrap on my front bumper from when my friends neighbor backed into me (and didn't say anything until I confronted her) when my car's alt died in front of his house. Someone placed something on my roof when getting into their car because I have a 5" scrape down to bare metal. My factory paint appears to be bubbling from behind on my drivers door (I gotta take pics for you guys here).
But my prized piece is when some old lady scraped her '68 Chevy Malibu along my passenger side rear 1/4 when pulling in next to me in a parking lot. She didn't just nudge the car and stop, nor did she stop when the alarm went off. Nope, she took it to the limit and put a 2 1/2' scrape down the rear quarter and pushed in about 3sq ft of metal along 2 bodylines. I was inside at the time and came out to her looking at the damage. Wow was I pissed. I managed to bang about a good amount, but some of it is too fine for the tool I had so I'll need a dent repair pro handle it. I hate it so much cause when the car is clean you see this horrible ripple down the side.
I guess my favorite section is the front passenger 1/4 panel. It's the only one completely unscathed.

Dents and chips don't bug me for some reason (and I just don't worry about my wife's A8), but the two things that really *do* irritate me are:
-The crappy paintwork and flawed driver's door glass on the S8 from the deer-incident repairs
-The scratches (paint, too deep to fix; chrome; even glass) and other cosmetic issues on the Jag, which have bugged me for 21 years now, ever since I took new-car delivery
Some day I'll get the S8 repainted, if I can ever find somebody good enough, but the door glass is a weird thing. The Jag can't be "fixed" without a full restoration and then it wouldn't be my original XJS any more.
My two favorite cars, my two "keepers", and they can never look better than mediocre no matter *what* kind of good detailing I do Anything else, on any other vehicles, I either get fixed to my satisfaction or I'll just replace the vehicle, but no such simple solutions on those two.

Pretty much the same as everyone else with the rock chips on the hood. I debated about spending $600-$800 for the 3M film to be installed on the hood and leading edges but didn't
Also, the orange peel that Mazda applied for me kinda stinks too but whatcha gonna do?

My front end has a decent amount of pits and chips. Not too noticeable but if you look you'll see them. I also have 1-2 small bird dropping etches and a couple door dings here and there. Most of it was on the car when I bought it, except my driver's side dent which happened on a really windy day while detailing my interior
It's impossible to keep a daily driven black car, or any other car for that matter in perfect shape; unless it sits in a garage all the time.

Oh wow, I fully detailed my car about a week ago... and I left it sitting there under the carport for a couple days because it was just too beautiful to take out for a spin. Also I wanted to add a couple more wax layers each day . Anyways, the next day after I fully detail it there is sawdust ALL over it from my neighbors.... GRR. Things like that annoy me... dust and the like.

I am in the same boat as almost everyone else in this thread. Rock chips are a bain. The truth be told I do not obcess over the chips that come from use of the vehicle. those are simply unavoidable. I do wince when I see a new one when detailing the truck. But I get over it an continue detailing.
The chip that really hurt my heart when it comes to my vehicle is the chip on the hood that I believe came from some drunken sot that lives in the complex that I reside in for the summer. Someone had to stand on the entrance step and throw a rock from that vantage point. It appears that this person was trying to skip a rock off my hood onto the front windshield. It hit in the front of the hood went into the windshield and cracked it. Then skipped up onto the front edge of the roof leaving its mark where ever it went. When I walked out in the morning I noticed it immediatley. My heart sunk. There was no need or reason for this action.
