I've always liked those old Supras, but I have no idea what makes them so ripe for modding. They seem to have unlimited potential. Anyone know what it is about their design that makes them so popular and powerful?

Tasty, they have a really strong bottom end that will take more than double the HP before you have to build it up. They make TONS of parts for them as a result. The basic engine design of that particular inline 6 has been around since about the early 80's. You can put nice rubber out back(something in the 300mm range) that will at least give a valiant effort to hold the additional HP. The other turbo Japanese cars of the time were the 300ZX TT, RX7 TT and the 3000GT VR-4. None are as build friendly as the Supra.
