What's the Deal with "Angel Eyes"

do they serve any functional purpose (i.e. increased lighting distance or reduced glare to oncoming drivers) or is it just a cosmetic/styling thang ?

seems like it's the new hot trend...

I think he is talking about those glowing rings on Beemers.

I think they look cool, but I have never seen them in person to know whether or not they are practical in any way.

What do you live on an island?

"Angel Eyes", "Halos", "Demon Eyes" whatever you wanna call them have been around for quite some time now. I'd say they we're the rage about 4-5 years ago when the 7 series BMW came with them. After that they we're quite popular with the imported aftermarket crowd, similiar to the altezza crave

I'm quite sure they don't do anything for light ouput, purely a cosmetic option. I could be wrong though.

Here in Canuckistan you can substitute your DRL for angle/demon eyes if you have them, which is nice. Otherwise they are purely cosmetic.

Just another way to have parking lights IMO. I think they are kinda cool on some cars.

I love my angel eyes. In fact on the '06 M Roadster (maybe all Z4's) they use the same technology on the tail lights also Pretty slick if I do say so myself.

I think Angel Eyes on a bimmer make the car look a lot newer and better overall. If you decide to get them, get clear corners (clear plastic over the turn signal instead of orange plastic. It's the 'Euro' look and it's a lot cleaner.

Agreed on the clear corners! I just love seeing those eyes on a nice 5/E39 series or 7 when perfectly detailed--just beautifull & purely cosmetic

I'll be the lone voice of dissent here

The angel eyes just aren't how I want my E36 M3 to look, I went with xenons in the original Euro lights instead. Heh heh, to me my car looks a little too close to yuppie-mobile/precious as it is, what with the Byzanz paint and all...but OTOH a friend once said that my taste in cars was that of a constipated German banker
