Internet Help :(

Okay, well here's the story...A hacker got into our desktop at home and completely destroyed it so we purchased a new one at Best Buy. This was a couple days ago...and my stubborn self finally has broken down and I'm asking for help. My dad started ripping the cords out of the computer/modem and when I came home to set it up they were all laying on the floor. I have the internet connection back up to the desktop..but I cant get my wireless internet working for the life of me. My computer finds the signal, but it cant connect. So far I have this connected:

Modem connected directly to the computer (enet hub to computer)
DSL cable hooked up to the modem
Power cable connected
And Im left with an empy slot labeled "USB" I dont think we've ever had anything connected here

On my wiresless router I have the Power cord connected
I'm left with Internet and LAN 1 through 4 slots empty

I've tried everything..I can get the internet light and LAN 1 to turn on the wireless router but then I lose connection to both computers, I've tried connection the router directly to the computer through Internet Port on router then connecting the modem to the router via LAN 1 and enet hub....I'm lost can someone please help Thank you!! I'm dying only visiting Autopia at work...I have a 15 yr old sister so we all know how often the desktop is being used

Modem -> "Internet" on hub. Computer #1 -> Lan1. Computer #2 -> Lan2. Once everything is plugged in, unplug the power from both the router and modem. Plug the router back in, then once it warms up, plug the modem back in. Sometimes you have to power cycle them like this to get them to recgonize each other.

you should have:

dsl line > modem > modem ethernet jack > router "internet" "wlan" jack

any computers you are connecting to the router wired, should be plugged into the jacks labeled 1,2,3,4,5.

once we get that going, we can work on the wireless.

make sure to power off and power on the modem, router and computer.

I'm a little confused when you say you have your modem connected to your desktop. If that's the case what are you plugging your router into? The ethernet cable coming out of your modem should be going to your router. Then the ethernet cable coming out of one of the LAN ports should go to your desktop. Here's a diagram of what it should look like.
