I forgot about Avenged Sevenfold. They have one or two songs on their most recent album that are very much like what I am trying to describe. Breaking Benjamin is just awesome... and I'm also on a Killswitch Engage kick right now, although they don't really dabble in the tribal/orchestral/piano sector at all.
Glad Zane mentioned 10 years... I heard them last September when they opened for Disturbed (along with Ill Nino) and they were very bad ***. Lots of good recommendations here!

One can NEVER forget Chevelle!

Wow glad to see a Breaking Benjamin fan out there. they are from my neck of the woods. kind of cool to see a band before they get out there for the rest of the world to see. a lot of my friends used to see them evry weekend at the local hangouts. back to the theme.... I think the fusion Jazz may work for what the poster is looking for. I do appreciate the Jazz area of music. | |

Second I'll throw in Death From Above 1979. Two guys, drum+bass, awesome beats, highly recommended.

One can NEVER forget Chevelle! | HAHA, you have got to be kidding me...we do have VERY simliar tastes. I freakin' LOVE Chevelle. The way they can make their music sound so multi-dimensional, with such simple riffs, one guiter, one bass, and a drummer is amazing. I can listen to This Type of Thinking... and Wonder What's Next from start to finish and never get bored with it.
I saw Godsmack open for 'tallica back in.... crap, musta been 2002 or 2003 in Kansas City at Kemper Arena. It was a much better show than when I saw them on the ReLoad tour in '98.
I've seen Breaking Benjamin twice, and they are just an awesome band as well. They opened for Staind and 3 Doors Down (I know, I know) last summer at a show, and they headlined a show that was opened by The Exies and Theory of a Deadman earlier in the year. I can't wait for their new album.
If I could see Korn, Chevelle, and RHCP live, I'd pretty much have covered all my favorites.
Another band that doesn't get much credit that I absolutely love is Flaw. His voice is stunning and they are all just awesome musicians.
The absolute most maniacal show I've been to is, hands down, SlipKnot in KC in 2005. Shadows Fall, Lamb of God, Slipknot. You do the math. It got ugly.

I've seen Chevelle in concert twice now - Sam signed my "This Type of Thinking" cd.
I've seen Breaking Benjamin in concert with 3 Days Grace, Seether, and Evanescence. Breaking Benjamin will also be coming back to Lubbock very soon...I'll be there.
Back in '00, I went to Summer Sanitarium in Dallas with System of a Down, Poweman 5000, Kid Rock, Korn, and Metallica.
Believe it or not, one of the best live shows I've been to was Bush back in '99-'00.

Awesome man, just awesome. One of the cooler shows I've seen was Deftones. It was a real laid back atmosphere but they rocked.
I had the chance to see Chevelle my freshman year at KU. They were playing in Lawrence but I didn't find out until about an hour before the concert
