After a very long three year application/testing process, I just found out today that I have officially been accepted to the New Orleans Fire Department. Out of 200 applicants, only 17 of us will be in the very first academy to follow Hurricane Katrina.
I go to orientation on July 14th, and start school on the 24th. I can't wait to get started!

It's the best job in the world.... I'm in my 25th year on "da job" ( 7 as a firefighter, 12 as a Lieutenant and 6 as a Captain) and still look forward to going to work everyday.

I really admire folks in the Fire and Police services. All of that hazard for such little compensation, it takes great dedication.

I decided to be a firefighter many years ago, but couldn't act on it until I sold my businesses, which I did three years ago. The week I sold my businesses is the week I applied for the dept.
I have a lot of friends and family in the dept. already, which helped my decision also. Some of the best people I know are firefighters. My cop buddies are cool too, but you can't tell them that. LOL.
