My restored M1 Garand. Pics

Some of you may have know but my Rifle was flooded back in Katrina. It's been sitting in a bag of oil for awhile and sent it off to DGR in January. I got it back a couple weeks ago and it was an amazing transformation.

This is what was sent to DGR:

And this is what he sent back:

National Match Sights
National Match Op Rod
Steel Bedded stock
Stock is a Bastonge Hybrid Walnut
Dual-Stage Trigger
Krieger Barrel
New sling (can't think of the maker off the top of my head)
And that case is a Pelican.

Wow, that is a beautiful transformation. I like those rifles. Saw the Mythbusters shooting one underwater last night. Have you fired it before or after restoration?

Beautiful! I will own an original M1 before I die (but not over here -gun ownership is illegal). The grain on the stock is really nice! Nice piece

Yep, I owned the original rifle for around 5 years now. It was flood damaged though so that's why it got a rebuild.

It's was definately worth the money too.

Intel486- That came out really nice Bet it was fun reassembling it after all that. How did the parkerizing stand up to that abuse?

Mine is an unfired (other than arsenal test-firing) National Match from the Springfield Armory. A cool piece of history but too nice to shoot.

Looks great! I couldn't see the tiger stripes in the wood in the before picture, I thought they must have remade all of the wooden parts!

Wow! That's some nice work. I saw some lady shoot one for the first time at the range the other day....it was amusing.

It's a different stock on the rebuilt rifle. It's a Bastonge Hybrid Walnut.

You found a real NM one that has been unfired?

Probably had to shell out a pretty penny for that rifle.

I'd like to get a 6 digit M1 Garand in the future and put it back to original GI Specs.

Edit: The only rust that was on the rifle was where all the constant wear points were. The places the bolt runts, in the bore, down the inside of the barrel, etc. The rifle was stripped and reparked by DGR and a New Krieger Barrel was put on. Most of the major parts of this rifle have been replaced.

Intel486- OK, gotcha, thanks for the edit with that info. That's gonna be one *really* nice user, huh? To look that sharp and shoot well too is gonna be great.

I inherited my NM from my dad, who bought it immediately post-WWII before such stuff was considered collectible. He said that the NM only cost a few bucks more than a regular one back then. All sorts of neat stuff was for sale for peanuts back in those days, the real trick was recognizing the future value of the right pieces.

Way2SSlow- And then there are ladies like Accumulatorette who shrug and say "what recoil?" about stuff that bruises my shoulder

Just think, the average size of a man back in the first half of the 20th century was a lot smaller than it is today, and we used the .30-06 for a long, long time (and some mighty big stuff before that too).
