flatstick: What part of CA is that? Those shots are breathtaking!
Come this year to Yosemite.
We have had a lot of rain/snow this yea in the Sierra.
(they are talking about late May skiing)
The falls in Yosemite should be spectacular by May.
You probably could not get within 200 yards of the Lower Yosetime Fall (the fall in flatstick's pics) with all the sprays and the noise should be thunderous.

Here are my pictures...These are really the first shots I took with my Canon S2IS - love the camera so far...the zoom capabilites etc...however it will take some getting use to before I can appreciate all the settings you can change.

We were both traveling at around 45 mph for this picture:

Here is a practice shot using the panoramic effect:

Sorry my pictures are so boring compared to others! Love the pictures so far; thanks for all the replies! For some of these pictures; like the cop car, I would love it if the car was in focus and the background was blurred..when I change the aperture, the background still seems to be in focus...any suggestions?

Nice shots so far Josh, glad your liking the S2 IS I really like that pano

To blur the background set your camera to the max aperture, should be like f/2.8 or f/3.5 on your camera. That should give you the most shallow DOF. I know there are ways to do it in Photoshop too, I just don't know how.

John: Since you helped me out I figured I would do a search for you; here are some links talking about faking the DOF with Adobe Photoshop

Very nice. I like that flying duck one a lot. Were these taken on Auto mode or did you change some stuff around?

I finally figured out how to get all my settings; here are the settings for the flying duck picture:

3.5
Light Metering
Center Weighted Avg.
ISO Speed
50
Lens
6.0 - 72.0mm
Focal Length
26.8mm
Digital Zoom
None
IS Mode
On
Image Size
2048x1536
Image Quality
Fine
Flash
On
Flash Type
Built-In Flash
Red-eye
On
Shutter curtain sync

AF Mode
Continuous AF

For the duck I kept trying to walk towards him so he would fly away - but he just kept walking and quaking at me Finally we got him to fly lol - we have about 5 ducks in our pond everyday so they should make for good practice
