They were making their turns repeatedly right over our parking lot. You could see the pilot's face behind his shield. VERY cool! One of the guys in the office was a retired navy fighter pilot, we couldn't pull him away from the window! | |

What a marvel of engineering. I believe it is the only US aircraft used in hostile environments that has never been shot down.

All I get to see nowadays are F-16s all day long.

Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: Dacula, Ga Posts: 389 | When I was stationed on Okinawa ('83 & '84), we had two SR-71s. I watched them take off numerous times. We had an air show one year and I got within a couple feet of one, they really are an awesome looking machine.
When I was a kid on Long Island, Grumman was a big outfit not far from where I lived. We would get sonic booms now and then. One time, while I was playing outside I heard jets flying really low, I looked up and saw the blue and gold of the Angels flying right over me (I might have been six or seven). | |
