I can't think of any reason to keep my landline phone but I wonder if those who have made the switch have run into any unexpected problems.
Seems like the only calls I receive are from tele-marketers and I'm paying $45 a month for nothing.

I'm on the Economy Plan. It comes to about $16/month.
I use it for the strict reason that I get just about no service where I live (between to large hills).

I don't have Tivo, I think that needs a phone line.
I use cable internet, don't have a dish and no alarm system.

When I moved out, I refused to waste money paying for a landline that I wouldn't really use. For me, it has been great. I don't think it's for everyone though. If it helps, I use Roadrunner for my internet access and have a TimeWarner provided DVR (so no need for a phone line). Hope that helps.

My wife and I have seperate lines so someone is always active if one phone is down or charging. We have been doing this for 4 years now with no real side effects. In my area there are no cheap landlines and paying $45 for a dial tone is stupid. Vontage or the bundled service frome Time Warner would be what we would do if we needed a real home phone.

The last couple of years, I'm getting a lot more business from the internet than the yellow pages...and most of the calls I get are price shoppers anyway. Once I am sure the majority of my customers have my cell phone number, I'll probably drop my landline and go with Vonage for personal calls.
