Now THAT's a vacation

so anyways... I've been gone for a while now because I was a nice cruise of the carribbean, that is, until wednesday night. As some of you may have read or heard, the Star Princess cruise ship caught fire wednesday night at 3AM. 120ish rooms burned and the cause is unknown. It just so happens that my cruise was in fact on the Star Princess. I was never in any sort of danger (1 deck above where the fire started and on the opposite side of the ship) but when the alarms went off in the morning I did go out on the balcony of my cabin and saw smoke, ash, and flaming plastic bits comming over the top of the ship. I'll have you know that burned plastic, correction, LOTS of burned plastic in a semi-sealed enviroment smells HORRIBLE. no amount of febreeze is going to help that boat. but hey, after spending 2 nights on the boat after the fire, princess decided to send all of the remaining passengers to an all inclusive resort hotel in ocho rios (the ship was docked in montego bay). anyways, that was a vacation i wont soon forget

After I posted to you over on Autogeekonline I ended up seeing video footage of the boat you were on...It looked pretty bad, glad you and your family are okay. Sucks about the trip

I had a similar experience on my honeymoon cruise, although it thankfully didn't include fire. The weather was so bad one morning we went up top and saw a water spout off in the distance. Weather didn't improve all day long, but seas were calm enough to continue the excursions. Well, when the seas began to deteriorate it happened so fast that not all of the boat's passengers could be brought back on board the ship from the island they were shuttling back and forth from. Those stranded had to spend the night on the island which had no shelter to speak of (not equipped for anything other than day time fun and drinking), and a pretty chilly evening of sleeping outside with no bedding. Right outside of our cabin window was the plank where the shuttle ship docked and we could see the last run of people coming aboard that evening. It's a wonder they weren't crushed between the plank and the small boat because it was rising and falling an easy 10 feet very rapidly. When we walked the ship that night it was an absolute ghost town. When everyone finally was brought back aboard the next morning, drinks were on the house all day, and Royal Caribbean awarded everyone with a certificate to take the same cruise again for free. It too was an interesting cruise. Never thought I would see a tornado in the Caribbean.
