My girlfriend is looking for a newer car.
Since i haven't needed a "newer" vehicle in a while, I'm not sure what would be the best car for the cash. She wants to stay under 14k. Pretty decked out, the usual ammenties. Just a good, reliable car.
Any suggestions for be very helpful.

That being said you are probably gonna fall into the Korean car segment for a car in that price range. Hyundai's reputation seems to be getting better and better (although resale on Korean cars is horrid), so you might want to go that route. Elantra MSRP starts under $14K. If it were me I would do some research on Honda Civics and try to get a good deal on one. Invoice on a new Civic sedan is $13,866 according to KBB.com. I don't know if they are selling for that or not based on all the positive reviews and such. They may be moving enough to not have to bargain.

Anyways, go to www.autobytel.com and maybe she will find a new car under $14000
New IS better

New IS better | To each their own, but buying a used car can be an extremely good deal. It is THE way to go if you are sure of the car's history. I got my truck from a retired guy that drove it around his farm and such. 30K miles when I bought it for far less than he paid retail. Just basically broken in at that mileage, and had probably been driven over 70 mph a handful of times.

I've owned two. One '94 that I drove for seven years and it only spent 4 hours in the shop for anything other than regular maintenance, and more recently a 2001 (that had some brake problems but I'm not going to blame Nissan for that), that I just traded in a couple of months ago.
Great car at a great price. | |
