When I'm going 55, I should not have to pass an old lady going 45 in the passing lane. Also is irritating when I go to pass someone and they speed up.

They speed up and pass you, then slow back down again. Repeat until my head is filled with homocidal thoughts. I blow past them and keep my speed up 5-10 over what I was going for a few miles, that usually ends that BS.

I had a lot of that on the recent trip and ended up doing what you did. I was on cruise control for a great deal and these guys would come up behind, pass and then slow down. I'd have to pass and then the cycle would repeat itself.
Finally I'd decide I had enough and pass them. Left it over like you and bye bye, don't have to deal with those idiots any longer! Maybe they feel that they just don't want your shiny car in front of them, who knows what goes through their minds? Probably not much at all, lol

Stirring up the pot a bit here...
Having driven with people like this (NOT ME DRIVING), their train of thought is that its almost a strike against their character and driving skill that they are passed. They *think* they are driving correctly and usually speed up, get pissed, and/or pull to the side. Honestly, it took me a lot to keep my mouth shut with these people.
I totally agree with all the points made in this thread.

Some people seem to think it's rude now, but when I grew up it was perfectly normal and acceptable. If someone is camping the left lane and I want them to move, double flash the beams and 9/10 times they move right over. Sometimes people just aren't paying attention.

Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: Charleston, WV Posts: 154 | I'm sure nobody from this forum from Ohio drives the way I see others from Ohio drive, so I feel safe saying that Ohio drivers coming through West Virginia are the worst. It's one thing to be doing at least the speed limit passing someone, but damn, 60 in a 70 and no intention of getting over. I usually do no more than 5 over and when someone comes up on me, I get over if I'm passing. One thing that irks me is when I'm passing and somebody tailgates. I'll drop right down to the speed limit and either pass or get back in the slow lane. I hate when someone is in the fast lane and I have to slow down for them, but if they're at least doing the speed limit I'm fine with it as long as they get over. It seems like almost every Ohio driver I encounter, no matter how many times I flash the high beams, they NEVER get over. Then when you pass them on the right they give you the nasty look. As I said earlier I'm sure no one from these forums from Ohio would do that. And I'm sure you guys see a lot of us from WV doing the same. Not me though!

All the time!
At first, my girlfriend yelled at me, but now she joins the fun .
The way I see it is this...Driving fast in my car is my problem. If I want to do 80 in a 55, then don't block the speed lane at 60, move over. Even at 80, I have people come up behind me in a hurry; I move over, let them pass, then move back in the left lane. Is it that hard? Don't take offense, it's just my prerogative .
What REALLY worked well was the Whelen Police Strobes I had in my Integra Highbeams . Illegal? Completely! But for the few times I did use them, people got very spooked and moved quickly. Other than that, they were just for show.

| So true. Just the other day, I was merging from one freeway to another (190 north to 635 east for those in the Dallas area) and the closest lanes on both freeways as they merge have a solid right line and no yield sign as those two lanes never merge into each other. Some jerk in a black Explorer Sport going about 10 mph slower than me crossed the solid white line almost directly in front of my forcing me to change lanes and go around him and as I did, he shot me the bird. Huh? How is it my fault he is either a complete idiot or a complete a$$hole? After I got around him, he got on my tail and I just tapped the brake so my brake lights went on (but I never slowed down) and it was pretty funny to see him slam on his brakes as I went on my merry way. He ended up getting behind us again and motioning us to pull over but as expected, when we reached our exit and motioned him to follow us, he kept right on going. I think someone has some tiny manhood issues or something. | |

I find that that double flashing my highbeams only seems to work well in my SUV. For whatever reason, no one pays attention to me when I'm in a car.
Nowadays, I just look at the offending person and shake my head in disapproval. It seems to make people more aware that THEY did something wrong.
For tailgaters, I will often just release the throttle till they back off or go around. Also, I've found that if your in slow moving traffic, and someone is tailgating, doing a "formula-1" style tire warmup (not too dramatic) will get most people to back off. Just make sure Mr. Policeman isn't nearby!

Then when he noticed you were going to stop to inform him of the proper washing/polishing procedure he was too embarrassed to admit his bad habits and decided against it.
HAHA nah he was just an a$$hole.
I can't stand people like that! It's amazing to know how many drivers are unaware of the meaning behind a SOLID white line... it means stay in your lane jacknut.

Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: Charleston, WV Posts: 154 | I had a guy tailgating me the other day that I scared a little. I was having a bad day so this is something I wouldn't normally do as I'm usually pretty passive. I was doing 67 in a 60 and passing a semi who was probably doing around 65. A guy in a crappy S-10 got on my rear and wouldn't back off so I tapped the brakes just to let him know I didn't care for him being so close. That didn't work so I dropped from 5th to 3rd and after a puff of smoke from his tires he got the message.
Where the interstate splits he flips me the bird and I gave chase and motioned for him to pull over. He wouldn't even look at me and tried to motion me to pass and go on up the road, so after 12 miles I turned around and went home.
In retrospect I feel like an idiot for chasing after him, but I bet he'll never ride my rear again. I saw a bumper sticker I liked that said something like " If your going to ride my a$$, at least pull my hair!".
