I personally would love to have full serve gas stations back. I cannot find but 1 in a 30 min. drive of me in any direction.
I dont like the idea of me doing someone elses job and not getting payed for it, so i might be a little hesitant to care if i know what pump i am at. Fortunately the place i use knows my vehicles, so i never have to discuss it.

That is 30 minutes I can never get back.
Besides, haven't you been stuck in line behind someone on a cellphone who refuses to end their conversation and complete their transaction and wanted to smack them in the back of the head and yell "Hey, moron, hang up, pay the cashier so the rest of us can get out of here"? | Well, like I said, if you don't want to wait behind them, get there first. They waited their turn in line to get to the front.
Standing around talking on the phone is a bit different, but because someone didn't know their pump number, didn't know what they needed to fill out on the bank slip, doesn't know what they want to eat, etc... So what? If the service you are waiting for isn't worth the time, walk out and go somewhere else.
Since you mention it, though, one thing that does bother me is how you have to pick a line to get in. Why don't stores just have one line so that people get through in the order they got in line? Otherwise if you do get in line behind the guy with the bizzare transaction, you wait forever, and no one is ever courteous enough to let you into their line.
Another that bothers me is when you are in line with a bunch of people, and a new line opens up. The people at the end make a mad dash to get there first instead of letting the people in front of them go. I try to let people in front of me go, but doing so usually ends up with both me and the people in front of me getting cut out by the dashing folks at the back.

How are people supposed to know that the people in front of them are going to be painstakingly slow and inconsiderate? Would it be better to rudely jump ahead of anybody and everybody you see walking up to a counter to pay somewhere, living life under the assumption that everyone is going to be a moron?
I don't have a problem with people taking their time. It'd be great, however, if they would also have the common courtesy to be aware of their surroundings and live life outside of their own little minds once in a while and realize there are other people walking this earth. My time is valuable.

Really, it's a simple thing. Yet it may seem rude to some of you only because it may insult your intelligence but to me I am humored by it. If you don't know what pump you're at, it's just kind of a dumb/silly mistake.

| I have walked out of fast food places in those situations but it isn't as easy at the bank, especially if someone pulls up behind you. When I pull up at the bank drive-thru, my deposit slip is filled out, all my checks are properly endorsed and I don't inconvience the people behind me. Why? Because I think it is rude to expect everyone else in the world to wait on me because I didn't prepare in advance.
If I go to a restaurant I am unfamiliar with, I wait towards the back and allow others to go ahead of me while I decide what to order. Again, just common courtesy and respect for other people's time. I just expect others to display a similar respect for my time.

If you don't want to wait while they take their turn, I guess you need to get there before them. When it's my turn at a counter, my goal is to get the service I waited for, not to get the hell out of the way so people behind me don't have to wait so long. If some people are slower than others about getting that service, they aren't being discourteous.
Some people are discourteous, though. And that's annoying. But read this thread and see what people are griping about. So you didn't know your pump number when you went in the store, or you thought you wanted to order a burger but changed your mind at the last second. It happens.

Drive me nuts...folks wait in a fast food line for several minutes and then, when they are at the counter, THEN they look at the board and decide what to order! What the heck have you been doing in line!
A little common courtesy goes a VERY long way!

Sure, it's annoying, but think of all the things going on in the world that matter. Who cares about waiting 2 minutes longer, or not knowing your pump number. How many pumps are there. "I'm in the red truck" or whatever needs to be said. If the clerk can't look out the window and surmise what pump you are at by looking at your vehicle then he probably needs a new job. We're not splitting the atom here. I sometimes worry about the little things and then I think to myself who cares. I have a son that has been in the hospital for the first 7 months of his life. That's the kind of stuff I'm sweating these days. Not if someone takes 5 seconds longer to decide if they want cheese or not.

We tend to complain about the little stuff because we don't have BIG problems. Our collective thoughts and prayers go out to your son and family!
