Not looking for a card for gaming. I am just looking for something with strong enough video performance for when I play DVDs as well as run multimedia software.

Since I don't really often have the chance to post my rig without feeling like an egotistal a-hole, here it is:

Main rig

Antec 3700BQE
Epox 9NDA3+
Athlon64 Venice 3200+ @ 2744 (305*9) with a Zalman CNPS-7700 AlCu cooler.
512 * 2 of generic DDR 400 RAM
128 MB 9800 Pro (425/375) (needs replacement)
Audigy 2 ZS with softmod to A4
Generic DVD burner
Generic DVD-ROM
21" Samsung SyncMaster 1100DF

Plays the minor majority of games to my liking. I was more impressed by the video card when I had an OC'ed Barton. Now, I just need to figure out if I want to pay to detail or play games.

Wife's

InWin A500 case
Intel 845 somethingorother motherboard (not even DDR)
P4 1.7 Willamette
1 Gig of whatever I cobbled together RAM
It has a CD-ROM drive and sound. I don't know much else, it's a turd.

If I can get off of my butt one of these weekends, I'll upgrade it to a 2.1 GHz Barton with my generic DDR 400 ram and my 9800.

Server

Some old dell that a friend gave me
P3 850
768 MB of PC-133
160 Gig hard drive
Ubuntu 5.10 linux
Works like a champ and only turns off when I forget to buy cards for in my electric meter.

Honestly, right now, I would rather get a PC setup with decent product rather than get a video card. I really only play Enemy Territory, Counter-Strike:Source and Fable: The Lost Chapters. My 9800 does well on all of those given the CPU I throw at 'em.

Smoked Tails,

What is a "softmod to A4" for the Sound Blaster card?

Talking

  • AMD 64 3200+ Winchester @ 2.6 ghz
  • MSI NEO2 Mboard
  • 1 gig OCZ Plat. Rev.2 (@ 1T)
  • eVGA 6800 GT (past Ultra specs)
  • Audigy 2 ZS
  • Klipsch 5.1 Ultra's
  • WD 74 Gig Raptor
  • Maxtor 300 gig 16 meg cache
  • Silverstone TJ06
  • NEC FP2141-SB@1600x1200--109Hz

Had this computer for over a year now. Brings a grin to my face whenever I am on it.

Gotta be the best monitor I have ever seen, sweet looking case, good speakers (for computer), fast loading of programs due to Raptor drive.

Going to upgrade to the latest sometime this year. Probably AMD 64 X2, another 300 gigger or larger drive, new videocard (whatever is best at the time).

It's using hacked Audigy 4 drivers to get some extra features. I stumbled across it at driverheaven's forums.

I just got a new 20" G5 iMac for my work computer. Sweeeeet!!!

I'm so lucky in that the genetic analysis software I use only runs on a Mac. The new Intel iMacs don't support OS9 any more, so I had no choice but to buy one of these G5 iMacs before they are gone for good (or at least that's the way I explained it to my boss). Apple has dropped the price $200 on the 20" G5 iMac, so it's a pretty good deal.
