There's no particular reason, but I find having both kind of pointless and I have more of a credit line on the visa. Someone told me one is better for overseas travel, but I can't back that up 100%. | |

I also have one other card with a low credit limit used only for online purchases. | |

I use American Express sometimes too. I Really don't know why I have it, because all the perks it offers have nothing to do with my lifestlye. It does keep you in check by forcing you to pay in full each month.

Just go for whichever has the lowest rate. | |

BigAl3 is online now Join Date: Mar 2005 Posts: 6,107 | i wouldn't close any of your credit card accounts. it's an open line and it looks bad if you close it (so i'm told). just use the one you lease favor, a couple months out of the year on like a $10 purchase or something, and put it away. if you don't like the interest rate, call and ask them to lower it (may not be much, but it's better than nothing). i've done it a few times and they've complied. | |

Interesting comment imacarnut, as I never heard this before. Contrary to what I've read so far, I still think I'm going to dump the mastercard. I still haven't made up my mind though. (it seems a lot of people have both) In my opinion I don't see the need for two different cards when pretty much every merchant takes both. It doesn't matter what my interest rate is, as I pay everything off each month. There are months when I don't put anything on the card at all. | |
