My gf and I want to start practicing. Her avg. is around 180 - 220 and she is anxious to kick my butt after I trounced her in a game of Scrabble.

We used to have a ten pin bowling facility in my community until a late night fire in 1989, which got a good head start and destroyed the facility.

After the fire was knocked down, there was still a heavy haze of smoke inside the structure. All you could hear were balls being rolled down the lanes and pins geting knocked over...

I rolled a perfect 300 game that night, but it was so smokey in there nobody saw it! LOL

I am wondering whether or not I should go down to a 15 or 14 lb ball if I am going to start throwing fingertip.

"I" wouldnt. But I know of alot of really good bowlers that dropped down to 14 lb balls. You will end up buying 3 or 4 balls anyway So buy different weights

I really like throwing a 16 lb Ball but I wonder if that will affect control.

I would recommend throwing the same weight with the finger tip that you are comfortable with using now. It won't matter near as much as learning your marks to go with the amount of break you throw. I was consistently between 160-170 until I went to fingertip and then I went up 8-10 pins a year for 3 straight years. There is no way to consistently throw 2 or 3 baggers throwing the ball straight.

I would recommend getting fitted by someone that really know what they are doing and taking a couple of lessons from the same person.....that way they can adjust your ball if necessary to fit your style and pitch.

Outlaw: I will do that. Do you have any suggestions on 3 ball rolling bags?

Can't help you there.....I only use one ball. I am one of the weird people ... the "10" is actually my favorite spare. I have thought about getting a 2nd ball that breaks less on dry lanes. It amazes me how much the lane conditions change over a three game stretch.....especially if everyone is throwing a similar line.

One of the guys on my team actually bowls left handed some nights just to make sure he is throwing a "clean" line. The dog actually has over a 200 average both right and left handed. You do however have to bowl the entire game the same way you start.....right or left handed. Yes, he is a hot dog!
