Total Gym XL...

anybody have one? Due to a new schedule, I'm looking to spend less time in the gym and more time sleeping. The third year of medical school along with the responsibility that comes with raising a infant has become real time consumming. With all that said, I'm looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle without the multiple hours of gym attendance required each week, so anyone know anything about these machines?

JJ

my mom and brother both have a total gym. i like it a lot the fact that you can adjust the height of the bench is cool cause it gets harder as you go higher to the top. Its not that hard to setup and even easier to put away when your done. My friends have cross bow's and all in one gyms from academy but id rather have the total gym..
Its more like resistance training, it can take some getting used to but with the right diet and frequent use of teh total gym you should be good. id buy it, its very reasonably priced.

Cool

Got interested in a Total Gym a while back but didn’t do anything.

In general I have an aversion to “infomercial” products and was considering getting one of their commercial/rehab models. The funny thing is, price-wise, the infomercial model XL (which is not made by the company that originally created and markets the Total Gym commercial products but is made under license by an infomercial marketing company) costs more than some of the other models.

I never got around to comparing features and construction (but I have a funny feeling Chuck's and Christie's salaries have to come from somewhere). It’s probably worth looking at all the Total Gym models.

PC.

IIRC there was a recall at some point, maybe last year. You might look into it and make sure you don't buy something that might've been involved. Not at all *certain* that it was the Total Gym, but I think so...

I think it was the Bowflex stuff that got recalled.

I have one of the first ones out. It doesn't have the added place for weight. Though that could be an easy add-on. I don't use it at this time, hope to change that this winter. It is a nice machine for a light cardio workout or minor strength training. If you want bulk you will have to join a gym.

I am not sure what price they are going for today, but should be fairly cheap compared to some other set-ups.

It is a nice machine for what it is.

I have one (got it from QVC-best prices). I don't think it's the XL though. Compared to my Nordic Track and other exercise equipement, I don't like it-there is absolutely no place to hang clothes on!

Actually, it's not bad. I use to use mine a lot. I had developed aobut a 20 minute routine that I went through once a day. For 20 minutes, it was a fairly extensive workout covering about everything I wanted to. And when they say that it really makes you focus your core muscles-they mean it! For 20% of the price of a Bowflex or other large machine, I am happy with it.

Yeah, I think that certain models of it got recalled too...I remembered the Total Gym because I forwarded the recall info to somebody I know who has one. Assuming I'm remembering it right

Anyhow...just make sure you don't buy something with issues.

Thanks for all the comments. I decided to go ahead and buy the Total Gym XL from a doctor acquaintance of mine. He used it twice and decided a weigth routine wasn't for him, so He decided to sell it. I bought it for $400 which I thought was a very good price considering it came with all the pilates attachments and videos (my wife will like that). Anyway, I'm not looking to become the next "worlds strongest man", but I definitely want to keep my current build and strength. Again, thanks for the comments.

I was never able to work out at home, when I get my a** to the gym, I'm there and what can you do. If you can self motivate yourself to do it at home - great Have fun.
