Anyone ever use the Sony CyberShot?
My parents are probably going to pick one of these up for me. 4.2 MP and $200, I believe.
Any info? Goods, bads, alternatives in the sameprice range?
Thanks,
G.A.

Sony makes fine digital cameras but, unfortunately, use proprietary memory - memory stick - which costs a lot more than comparable memory media. That may be one thing to keep in mind.

I have bought a couple of Sony's for work (I am not the one who uses these all the time, just occasionally), the first a Mavica, and a Cybershot that sounds like the one you are considering. I found the Cybershot to have fairly confusing menus in comparison to the Mavica (floppy disc camera), although I don't have other brand experience to compare to. Next time, I think I will try another brand, if that means anything to you.

Hmm... I've looked in the MultiMedia sections of a few other forums and have yet to really find one positive thing about this camera.

They say that in conjunction with the megapixels, you need a good lens (you can have a high megapixel sensor, but if you have a crummy lens, you won't get good images). Certainly the high end Sony's use big Carl Zeiss lenses, and I think all of the Sony's use Zeiss lenses. They take good pictures, I just got a little frustrated with the ergonomics and buttons/menus of the DSC-S60 I was using, and wondered if there are others that are a little friendlier.

Why not look into a new camera? There are tons of choices now when it comes to cameras that it can drive a man crazy
Is $200 your budget and are you looking for any particular features? Let me know i'll look some up that are comparable to the Cybershot.
btw my Fuji FinePix S5100 (4.2 MP, 10x zoom, etc.) can be found for $200 (after $50 MIR). I've been very impressed with it. Since I was posting this on another forum, i'll post here for the heck of it. I took this picture about a week ago with my S5100.

Johnny,
I guess around $200. Not too much more. No particular features in mind. Maybe a video recorder, but I guess most cameras have that anyway.
