lifting carpet marks

You know how when you move a piece of furniture that has been in the same spot for years and it makes an indent in the carpet where it sat? How do you lift the nap of the carpet back up so you won't notice where it sat for the last 10 years?

I think I know the answer to this one

Put an Ice Block on/in the indentation. Let it melt and soak in. Then leave it a while and vacuum. It should lift the dent right out.

FWIW, that is the solution I have read before (Heloise, IIRC). I just never tested it. I'll await your test results.

Well, the results are in. Hemi57, first off thank you for your reply on this subject. I do appreciate it. Having said that, this method didn't work that well. I used a couple of ice cubes in the dented area and let it soak in over night. In the morning I vacuumed and while it did look better, it didn't look 100% better. I got this tip from another website and it worked great. I would recommend this method to anyone.

"When furniture is moved, it often leaves a dent on the carpet. This can be rectified by simply running an iron over a wet white cloth laid over the mark. After around 15 seconds or so, lift the cloth off. The steam should have lifted the pile back up to its original height."

III, thanks for giving the feedback and for the information on the more effective method which I hadn't heard before. Good to hear you got the result.

The ice method did work for me but maybe my situation suited it better, ie. low plush pile that had about 5 years of furniture "dent".

I will add your method to my "kit bag'.
