Possible Tropical Storm - Already!

Hurricane Season '05 must be watching a calendar. A week into June and there is already a tropical depression that'll likely turn into a tropical storm.

How many others on this forum live in hurricane/storm prone areas?

Luckily, we've never had a power outage in our house during a hurricane. *Knock on wood*. During Isabelle, we were inside making a Croc-Pot dinner and watching DVD's for 12 hours.

Not terribly prone up here in Maryland, but Isabelle (I think it was her) came up through here and knocked down trees, blew up transformers, etc... That was impressive. I feel for you guys down in the more storm-prone areas.

Remember, when a tree falls on a client's car, just say "ahhh, that'll buff out"

Ugh, grim reminder of my future. We haven't seen a hurricane in Maine in a good 8 years or so. I just hope I can find some sort of reinforced parking when I move down to Melbourne (FL).

Tampa Bay here...it seems like we just finished Hurricane Season and here it is again. We had FOUR hit our state last year. We are hoping to take a year off.

FL deserves a break but do not send them up to the GA/SC border.

I'm in this one.

If you look at Louisiana, you can see a big lake on the LA/MS border, that's Lake Pontchartrain and I am right on it. The south side of it to be exact, and only two blocks away from the water.

I called today to make sure my flood insurance is good to go.

Good luck Dookie. I remember riding out Alicia just after moving back to the Houston area in '83. We just stared out the window and counted the trees that fell. No power for about a week in August in Houston, that was a little uncomfortable. Every season now I just keep my fingers crossed. It seems that the Texas coast has been dodging bullets the last couple of years.

Hilton Head has not taken a direct hit in decades. Been brushed a few times but nothing severe so I have to question when our luck will run out. Our hurricane panels are a royal PITA to install (they're very heavy) so hopefully we will not have to put them up many times this year. I have a bet with my parents that we will install them twice. It may be against POA rules but the first time we install them, all hardware is being left on the house until the end of hurricane season. The hardware is 50% of the work!

Closed up for when Charley was threatening to bring 60-70 mph winds to the island. We had the pleasure of installing the panels in pouring rain (yes, it was still under construction).

I live in Florida---Polk county actually where the 3 of 4 hurricanes nailed last year.

I now have invested in 3/4" plywood doubled up for the windows, a 5500w generator, 10 5 gallon gas cans, a hose to siphon gas out of the vehicles & work truck (I have a supply of over 100 gallons of gas for the generator if needed), tarps, chain saw, and other misc things. OH and 2 logging/certified chains and a tamperproof lock to lock the generator in the bed of the truck.

We didn't get any damage thankfully but the neighbors around us did. It's too much of a risk now to not have a generator and other things.

After the 2nd 'cane went through here--we thought what the hell are the chances of a 3rd hurricane coming? We bought food, etc. Loaded up the fridge. Sure enough 3 weeks later. I then bought a generator.

Now with that in mind, it REALLY makes you wander what is coming this year, especially since we aren't even 15 days into the hurricane season and they're allready popping up.

Either way I'm ready as I can be.
