When was the last time you saw a bounty on a fish?
http://www.dnr.state.md.us/fisheries...snakehead.html
The Chinese Snake-headed fish. A top breed predator fish in China, was introduced to a Crofton Pond in May, 2000.
They are able to live out of water for up to three days, and can walk from one water supply to another. They can grow up to 40", 15 lbs, and have bigger teeth than the man eating bunny in "The Quest for the Holy Grail."
Anyone have anymore detailed pictures? The thought of sh*t in the water with me scares the hell out of me. I have a hard time water skiing at Kerr Dam resevoir on vacation after hearing about a 17 foot cat fish being caught near the dam.

What was the storyteller of the 17 foot catfish smoking and what are you smoking to actually believe it?
I believe the current world record catfish was 124 lbs.

Re: Re: When was the last time you saw a bounty on a fish?
Shut up. I've seen big fish in that lake, and it's deep. I have a great fear of being pulled under water in a lake or ocean. Pools are ok, I can see the bottom. They scare me.
Now, about these snake-headed fish. Not only are they big, but they have teeth and are hunting me! And they can chase me on land! I'm carrying a shovel on the boat from now on.
Oh, I just remembered- the 17 footer was really skinny. That 124 lb fishy is fat. My guy was like a spear- coming through the resevoir like a torpedo to attack me. Good thing someone caught his skinny *** before I got into the water!

Be careful. Supposedly there are cats as large as Winnebagos.
http://www.snopes.com/critters/lurkers/catfish.htm
Poisonous water snakes and alligators worry me when in southern lakes. Out west, I will swim in a lake all day long without worry. As for salt, I refuse to go any deeper in it than I can stand. I have caught far too many nasty creatures out of the saltwater.

Ah!
See Greg, I told you the south was gonna rise again. This time, you guys don't have Sherman and we're enlisting our snakies and fishies to eat people in lakes north of the M-D line.

Well, the idea that there's no fish bigger than the largest one a person has caught is a bit unrealistic.
Mongoose, you should be more concerned that one of those snakeheads is reading your post right now and making plans to crawl under your bed! Are you at least 3 days crawl away from any lakes?

Of course it is unrealistic. But I do know how fish stories are exaggerated as they are told so I have a very hard time believing a 17' catfish would actually exist. All in fun.

All I meant was sometimes snopes has some pretty weak explanations for why something isn't true. I kind of doubt there are catfish that big too. Plus, a dam isn't like the ocean or something. Sure it's deep, but it's not like unfathomably deep.

Actually I believe the catfish you're referring to was caught in Catfish Lake and was named General Sherman. The man that caught it was bald, fat, had two hairs across his head, and was married to a woman named Marge.
Snakeheads are an invasive species. I actually had two of them in my fishtanks at one time. They were only about 5" long, but they would gobble up feeder goldfish like nothing I've seen before.
