More Alike Than Different

Sometimes I just have to shake my head. The world (and our little microcosm of it here at Autopia) is so full of acrimony, yet we all have more in common than we have differences.

There is so much racial intolerance, yet we are all people. There is so much religious intolerance, yet virtually all religions hold the same tenets to be true. And we argue endlessly over which wax is better---when Guru Reports lumped virtually all of the products that they tested together--essentially saying that they were more alike than different. Many contributors here have said that virtually every product they have used has performed satisfactorily. The differences become idiosyncratic perceptions among perfectionists (with a few exceptions at each end, as noted by Guru).

In an ever-smaller, ever more crowded world, it frustrates me that we become ever more polarized, and that people of other races/religions/political leanings/wax preferences are not accepted as having different opinions--but are declared "wrong" and subject to vitriol.

Posting here that a certain product is "good but maybe not as good as people say" is like suggesting that someone's religion is good, but maybe not as good as people say--it's pointless and pejorative.

This country was founded on the principle of allowing people to be different--giving them the right to be different. I think people here should be allowed to have different product preferences without being castigated for it--why do certain products engender threads that become "my opinion is better" pissing contests??

Well, I'm tired, had a tough day...maybe tomorrow I'll regret posting this.

Well put All the more reason to emphasize the separation of church and state - allowing each of us to privately adhere to, and practice our religious principles without infringing on others or saying others are "wrong" when your opinion is based on a belief! I have had a few encounters with religious freaks who were inches away from skinning me alive because I'm Jewish. It was odd because they sounded like the terrorist freaks who despise Jews!

Unfortunately, racial intolerance is taught to many, reinforced through common stereotypes. When I was a kid, a close friend of mine was black. I had no idea he was "black" and one day I asked my mother why he was purple! I thought he was purple! I didn't care that he was "purple" but I was curious why.

That's not to say that I don't have my own prejudices. We all do. It's human nature - you really can't escape it. But I don't allow them to be the method or way in which I judge or treat people.

As far as waxes or products - let the "fighting" continue! Life is good when arguing over wax is of siginificant importance to us in our lives. It's a fun debate we have here. Also, you have to take into account everyone's differences as human beings in how they react to things. That's what makes us different. In the end, despite anybody's opinion, there isn't anyone of you guys on this board who I would not enjoy having a beer with regardless of your "waxual preference"

The ignorance of the typical American (especially the kids I go to school with) is mind boggling.

One of the best things in our country- freedom of thought and speech- has really also turned into one of the worst.
