the results of our detailing work

I had the wife's bonneville in for repair last week and when I picked it up my mechanic said someone wanted to know what kind of wax I use on it. We talked for a while and then I left. There have been other times as well where people at work have asked me what do I wash my vehicles with.

I say this not to bring glory to myself, but to say that people indeed pay attention to the way vehicles look. I think it's the small details that really make the cake. Dressing the tires, shining the chrome rims, and other little items, really make things stand out in my opinion. As anal as I am about my vehicles I sometimes get a lazy attitude and don't want to spend the time detailing my vehicles. It's times like above that make it all worth it.

Furthermore, I think as autopians if we want to give advice about detailing we should at least show that we care by the way we treat our own vehicles. Why would someone trust me when I have a dirty car or truck all the time?

Getting the little compliments like that always make everything worth while in the end.

I know what you guys mean. I took my car in one time after I had cleaned it, the service manager came over and asked me who I had detail it because they were looking to hire someone new. When I told him I did it he was just like "Do you work already???" That really makes you feel good, and motivates you to not skip the details when your ready to quit.

Yeah, and it can be funny what people notice. An elderly friend of mine whom I'll chauffeur in my wife's A8 (he has Parkinson's) was impressed by the condition of the car's doorjambs of all things. Even though his car care days are behind him, he wanted to know everything about how I did such areas, from cleaning to how I got in there to polish.

yes, keeping your car clean a majority of the time is usually an invitation to people asking you for advice on keeping their cars clean or asking you to clean their cars. i guess it also doesn't hurt to talk about detailing a lot too.

I'm still in high school, and I remember sophmore year my spanish teacher made fun of me constantly, and said things like "come on don't you have anything better to do than wax your car all the time?!" since all of my friends in the class told her about me. Now I get all compliments, and this spring hope to make even more than that spanish teacher! lol

Ok, most of you fellow members are at least over 18. Now try just turning 16 and detail for a living. Then add in driving the cleanest car on the school's lot, well that leads to a lot of questions.
