Rosetta Stone Software?

Hi guys, this is my first post in the off topic section. I am taking a Spanish class right now that is giving me fits. I've been looking for something to help me really get the basics of the language, since I have to take a second Spanish class in the Spring semester. My dad works for Southern Company here in the states and he can order the Rosetta Stone software levels 1 & 2 for less than $100 through his employee discount. I was wondering if anyone had used this program in Spanish before, and what your opinion was. I will be getting the Latin American version BTW, but if you have used the European version I would like to hear about your experience as well.

Also, if anyone has a similar software that they have used and liked I am open to suggestions. Rosetta Stone is the only one that my dad can get a discount on, but I'll look into anything.

less than $100? I wish i could get it that cheap. havent really heard any negative things about it other than how expensive it is.

There are three Latin America Spanish language levels available for Rosetta Stone version 3. I don't see why you couldn't do a decent job of mastering levels 1 and 2 in time for your spring semester, you'd certainly be quite fluent by then.

My gf really wants this, but I don't know how this is any better than any other computer based language learning software... it sure costs more...

I'm skeptical its not the money that worries me, if it works it's worth it to me. I'm used to lets say the classroom setting bouncing words and sentences off each other

En mi opinion, es mas facil aprender un idioma en un classe. Pero, por esas personas que no tengan ese tipo de tiempo, pienso que Roseta Stone es el mejor programa que puedes usar. En mi case, yo aprendio la idioma en escuela para casi 9 anos, y pienso que puedo hablar y escribir bien. Eso es mi opinion

In my opinion, it's easier to learn in a classroom. But, for those people who don't have the time for that, I think Roseta Stone is the best program on the market that you can use. In my case, I learned the language in school for almost 9 years and I think that I can speak and write well. That's my opinion

My kids and wife are doing Rosetta Stone Latin America right now. My youngest is 6 and he walks around the house talking Spanish all the time now. Nothing but good things to say about this product.

How is your wife doing with it? It doesn't surprise me that your 6 y.o. is doing so well, young kids can pick up a language much faster than older people.

She is doing well with it also. She is an experienced teacher and she regards it as an effective way for all learners to learn a new language. Not everyone will find it easy, but most will.

I have an old version and it makes learning pretty easy. I was doing Italian and stopped almost a year ago. Popped the cd in after seeing this thread and surprisingly I remembers the basics of it. But since I already know Spanish it makes learning Italian easier for me since some of the words are very similar in sound and meaning. Maybe thats why I was able to pick it back up with out skipping a beat or not.
