Like the majority of modern electronic devices, these cameras are a disposable commodity.
Contact Canon for a verbal estimate and you'll quickly realize that you can purchase a brandy-new camera for about the same money as the "best effort basis" repair quote
I'm throwing away these small pocket cams when they fail. I have had numerous lense drive issues. My SONY just crapped out last month. However, I truly got my $$$ worth of that one.
FWIW, a modern dSLR camera is likely to be more reliable than these tiny, complex pockets cams for two reasons: They don't have the fussy lense drive mechanism and the number of shutter releases they're rated for is MUCH higher.
You can ask CANAON about an upgrade scenario. That's what I did with my G3 when it failed 4 weeks after the warranty ended. (Yes, I was furious
