What good is a usps tracking number if you can't look it up and track it??

That is not a tracking number. That is Delivery Confirmation.

Actually, it is a tracking number, and I agree; the Post Office's tracking system sucks.

The Delivery Confirmation is an additional service the shipper paid for, where the shipper will get an actual piece of paper back from the Post Office showing proof of delivery. Without a tracking number, he couldn't have gotten *any* of the information shown.

I don't think the PO really intends their system to be a tracking system. It's more of a delivery verification, as BM says. However, I have noticed they display more detailed info as of late, but there still appears to be that significant lag in what's displayed.

I can give you my .02 since we ship a lot of packages everyday using UPS, FedEx, and US Mail. US Mail has by far the worse tracking system, thats if you get the tracking. We find that they do better on tracking when it is shipped internationally oppose to within the states which I find strange. When you do get tracking it is not real time updated like UPS so you might not get tracking till after your package arrives. I cannot see how companies can use it if shipping a lot of packages, you just don't have that up to date info for your customers.

Yeah I didn't include the number when I copied it. But my item did get delivered.
I'm waiting for 3 more items and every tracking # says the same as the above.
