There's a lot of backstory to this. I believe SCG pre-dates Autopia.

Mike owned the domain for a quite a while and did have some of his own stuff on it once upon a time.
When he and Richard started their partnership it was a natural choice for their website.
When they decided that their paths pointed in different directions, Mike kept showcargarage.com and Richard adopted something uniquely his own, showcardetailing.com.
Mike’s hanging on to it and might use it again someday. But if somebody wants it bad enough he’ll let it go. (I’ll bet you could bargain him down to $2,900,000 )
