Does anyone else think it's odd....

When people with 0 or just a couple posts write product reviews in the review section?

Re: Does anyone else think it's odd....

whats wrong with that? Its not like people get an account the very first day they start reading a forum. It was quite a bit of time from the moment i first started reading this forum until i joined so I can comment

Its wierd when people base someones knowledge on their post count or join date.

This is just in general. Ive been a member of many forums where post count was credibility but im glad that most peoples credibility here is based on their work, not a number.

No, I don't.

As long as it is insightful and well written, I don't care how many posts you have. You don't have to have 1k+ posts to know something.

You gentleman are missing wannafbody's point...he's suggesting that these people are shills, not suggesting that you need a high post count to "know something".

i agree with the above post. whether someone has 1k+ posts or just 10, usually the content of their review will give away if they know what they're talking about

Re: Does anyone else think it's odd....

I constantly review people's post history. You'll find very strange patterns in what they choose to discuss. There's a huge difference between someone who is head over heals about a product and one that promotes the same product over and over. It's also a dead ringer when someone revives a old thread to follow up promote it. What kills me is when they're stupid enough to link their web-site in thier screen name list. I remember when the Buff N Shine guy did that.

I'm gonna say yes, it is wierd when people with less then xyz posts post reivews....
And I'm going to say that 9 out of 10 times its probably a shill, but I LOVE (what David Fermani was referring to) when somebody comes on here, asks a bunch of questions then 2 weeks later is giving advice on stuff (because they read it somewhere else first) like they have any clue what they are talking about.

Re: Does anyone else think it's odd....

I thought it was odd that when looking at the forums this thread had 15 reads and 8 posts. That's the highest post/read ratio I've seen on a thread (good thing btw)

Back on topic I like to read any kind of review be it shill or an honest one. The nice thing I find about autopia is if it is spam people aren't afraid to call people out on it. So even if they are trying to push their product people who have tried it will give their opinion on said product and I will get the real skinny on it.

Re: Does anyone else think it's odd....

Anotherr thing I find facinating is when I look over old thread and see all the Banned people. There's got to be literally 100's and many have severral thousand posts. I'd love to know what happened and why? You try reading through their posts and everything controversial is deleted by Moderators. I guess that's why there's so many other detail forums were created?

If anyone has time and is interested.....try doing an advanced search and put in the key word "Review" and look under "search title only". You'll see 100's of posts started by very low p ost count members. Drill in to see all thier posts and sometimes you'll see a strange pattern.

This is the best / worse of an online discussion group. There is a sense of equality in being able to post a comment no matter the skill level. There is no "caste" system. I have at times disagreed with observations by the megaposters but some need to learn a little humility.

I have seen some that will comment on products they have never even used or mention products they like (some may call it spamming at times) even if the product is not in discussion. For example, someone will ask if how is LSP x for durability and then someone will chime with "go will collinite" when that was not the question. They have their favs and will post whenever they get a chance even if they have never used anything else.

Talk to some of those who were banned. Most think it was unfair -- that is one side did not get banned while another side did,
