Corvette or GTO?
Hey everyone..
I’m thinking about trading in my land rover and going back to a sports car. So I kind of narrowed it down to a 1999 corvette or a 05 gto. Both have less then 50k miles on them and in good shape. The car will not be my daily driver but it will be used often. I think the corvette has the LS1 and the gto has the LS2. Also the gto has 50 more hp but the corvette is faster. Auto or manual does not make or break the deal for me. The asking price for these cars is around $16,000.
My stats are..
6’1”
Low 200 lbs
32 years old
Very single
No kids
Plus I have good hair.
So that’s about it. If someone here owns one or both of these vehicles, please help me out if you could. Or even if you just want to give your opinions, please do.
Thanks to all.

Re: Corvette or GTO?
C5 Vette hands down. $16,000 for a 99 is pretty high. You can get a 03 Z06 for under $20,00 these days. Vette prices drop really hard this time of year, so search out the right car and make an offer. I drove my C5(and C4) daily, even in the winter through Michigan snow storms and it's just a good as any other 2WD vehicle on the road.

Re: Corvette or GTO?
As a Corvette guy myself (I have a C6), I feel bad saying this, but I think I'd go with the GTO. The C5 Corvettes are a bit "old school" GM in terms of fit and finish, whereas the GTO is really nice. Both are fast, fun, and cool, however, so I don't think you can go wrong. If you aren't too worried about the interior, the C5 will definitely be an awesome car too.
Bottom line - you've chosen 2 great cars, and I don't think you can go wrong
However......whats all this "auto or manual doesn't make or break the deal..."
An automatic corvette????? SACRILEGE!!!!!

Re: Corvette or GTO?
Vette...all the way. The GTO is nice, and I ad an 04, but its a very bland car in terms of style, and it's got some weird quirks.
Stick with the Vette...a true American sports car

Totally agree here. Nothing against them, but GTO's are just a bit plain for me.

Re: Corvette or GTO?
GTOs look like deformed GTPs to me? No matter how crappy some people say about the interiors on Corvettes, there's really no comparison to the looks of a Vette.

Re: Corvette or GTO?
"Very single" + "No kids" = Vette
need room for the wife & kids = GTO

Re: Corvette or GTO?
I would go for the vette. I work in a tire shop and have seen my fair share of each and just about all the gto's had rub marks on the front struts from the tires, I think there was a recall, and I remember seeing one with under 20k on the odometer and both outer tie rods were loose. Just seems like a lot of hassle.

If you see a ZO6 with low miles for under 20K let me know. I too would buy the vette.

Re: Corvette or GTO?
here's my opinion ... I used to own an 04 GTO
If you want a car for looks, handling, and performance ... Corvette
If you want a nice sports car that is a sleeper and is somewhat practical .... GTO
GTO has a lot of aftermarket support as far as engine goes. You might find it difficult to find rims because the back wheel wells are kinda narrow ... nothing that a fender roller can't fix. GTO insurance was dirt cheap (Only reason why I didn't get a Vette) ... cheaper than my 04 GTP (this was a while ago). The GTO interior is nicer than the Vette and feels really European.
You can't go wrong with either one ...
