Ben Vrackie Mountain Climb (Picture Heavy!)

After a few lighter going hills and gentle forest walks, it was decided time to try out a proper hill - or dare I say it, mountain!! 2760 feet, nearly a Munro, so I was a bit proud of myself for the climb and the first to such a height for me... (thought it should be noted, this was an "easy" climb for anyone who does it regularly).

Anyways, a quick waterfall picture on the starting path as we set off at around 830am...

Weather wasn't great as we set off and the peak was in low cloud and only revealed itself a few times...

Very quickly we were into the low cloud...

Looking back, we could see down the valley with Pitlochry in the foreground and the River Tay winding through... Mist sitting on the river at this time of day:

A little mountain stream...

As we approached the hill (or can I call this one a mountain? ), it was masked in cloud...

Small loch (lake for the English folks ) at the foot of the climb...

Then, a stroke of luck as we started the climb - the weather broke

Diane, patient as always with all my pictures :

The clearing clouds made for some nice sky pictures, popped on a circular polariser at this stage which got me a little better contrast in the pics:

The sun came out for some arty shots into the sunlight (seems to be a winner for pics for me...)

And now with the sun out, better pics of the surroundings:

To the top...

Cairn in site!

And at the top! Proud little soul I am today, as above, first time I've made it to this height which although doesn't sound much, I'm not the fittest in the world at the moment though I am working on it!!

Arty cairn shot:

More from the top:

Just to prove I made it...

(note - the new jacket! Yes, its bright red, but its also a proper Gore-Tex jacket picked up from a charity shop for £6.50, not bad at all!)

Yet more from the top...

Future challenge?

Spurred on, decided to climb the other little peak as well...

Diane surveying...

Views from second peak:

The lovely Diane

Unfortunately, blown about by the wind while this pic was taken makes me look a bit, well... camp (Diane's words!

Heading back down...

Good timing, as the weather started closing in again...

Back to the loch

The conquered mountain

Little mountain stream again...

Path home...

Sun shot:

And finally, popped on a warm up filter for some Autumnal pics

And finally, nice pic before going back to the car

I'll sleep well tonight for sure, and now I am happy with approaching 3000 feet, a Munro is hopefully within reach either before the end of the autumn or in the early spring.

You remind me of the guy from Superbad, but i'm sure you get that a lot.

How was the termperature at the peaks? --I doubt it was too cold or your girl wouldn't be wearing shorts!

Around +7degC at the peak average, but a good 40 - 50mph wind made the temperature seem lower when in the wind... Though, Diane is much hardier than I am - she's a trained Outward Bound instructor (trained by North Carolina Outward Bound), hence I always feel safe climbing hills with her
