I wonder what we would think of motorcycle safety. The helmet really helps. 8-)

Getting smacked in the face by your dashboard does not look fun. Apparently there is a price to pay for low cost cars.

Re: Apparently, Chinese vehicles aren't doing well in crash tests

Those are old videos, the same companies came up with improved cars for the E-NCAP test just 3 months later and they all got a 3+ star rating. China even started up its own C-NCAP test center last year.

Don't believe all the bad hype you hear about Chinese made cars, it is simply the Big 3 and the auto unions trying to keep them out of North America. Chrysler is bringing in the Chery A1 rebadged as the Dodge Hornet later this year. Italy, Germany and Russia are already importing thousands of these cars, so if they can pass the European tests, its only a matter of time before they reach our shores. I personnally can't wait for them to get here ! The Chinese like to use Italian exterior designs and German design mechnicals and engines in their home grown cars.

The $3,999us Chery A1, western automotive jounalist have already test driven it and they prefer it over the Suzuki Swift+ or the Chevy Aveo and Pontiac Wave.

YouTube - Chery A1 (TV advertisement/commercial)

It is good that you are following their development, I have been doing so for about 3 years now and from what I see it is staggering, while in North America we have the Big 3 and in Japan the Big 7, Europe the Big 3, China has the Big 18 !

Sometimes I don't know if they are trying to fool us with these bad test results to make the auto manufacturers here not to worry, but it is ironic that these same car companies in China are the ones making BMW and GM on their assembly line right next to their home grown brand !

People's Daily Online -- BMW plans to open second plant in China

BMW has kepted it very quiet about their two plants in China, one since 1984 and their new plant that just opened in December 2007 was kepted very very quiet from western customers who thinks they are still paying the big bucks for a 100% Teutonic automobile !

The Brillance BS4 built by the same Chinese plant that builds the BMW 3 Series, except it costs a mere $16,000us and not $35,000us !

YouTube - Brilliance BC3 (m3) commercial ad Chinese car

Its corporate greed at work here !

I wonder how a good old motorcycle would do against that wall. I am sure the helmet will help cushion the blow.

Re: Apparently, Chinese vehicles aren't doing well in crash tests

Japanese and Korean cars weren't always known for their reliability or quality, but I don't think a Chinese car would ever reach that caliber. Chinese people don't pride in the quality of their work. For them, they pride in how much profit they can make and if it means having to cut corners when they know they shouldn't, they'll do it anyway if it means more money in their pockets.

Name one product that comes out of China known for reliability/quality. I will bet that's going to be a tough list to come up with.

There is no such thing as a quality Chinese product. It's all disposable junk.
