Need a new mattress!?!?!?

Anyone recently purchase a new mattress? My back is killing me and I need something firm. My wife also has back problems (herniated discs) so it needs to be very supportive. Temperpedics are nice but too pricey. Any suggestions or tips on how to shop for a mattress?

Re: Need a new mattress!?!?!?

There are some "imitation" Tempurpedic (I guess the patent ran out) at a better price point. Since you are in Jersey, Rockaway Bedding used to sell the knock-off, but they got bought by Sleepy's, their site doesn't work anymore, and who knows if you can still get that.

Re: Need a new mattress!?!?!?

I absolutely love my memory foam mattress. It's a little pricey but less expensive than some models. Mine combines both a pillow-top and memory foam so it's about 50% off the cost of a pure memory foam bed and, at least to me, is more comfortable.

We bought a Tempurpedic about a year and half ago. Completely different feel than a spring mattress. We love it. But, it is pricey.

They're so much more comfortable, aren't they? I tell you, a good night's sleep is a valuable thing.

I was gonna pick up a Hastens for $50,000, but decided to get a futon instead.

Re: Need a new mattress!?!?!?

I got a $5,000 Kingsdown mattress and I absolutely hate the thing.

Go to Bob’s Discount Furniture and get a BOB-O-PEDIC. A friend of mine has one and loves it. I think you can return it if you don’t like it. I could be wrong on that so ask before you buy.

Re: Need a new mattress!?!?!?

I went to Sam's club and picked up a king size pillowtop and box springs for about $1000. It's not the greatest, but I sleep good on it!

Re: Need a new mattress!?!?!?

We purchased 3 memory foam mattresses from Costco.com a little over 2 years ago and they've been worth the money, except the Cal. King one. All are the same brand and same make/model (just different size), but the large bed has no edge support for some reason. I'll be calling the company or returning it soon. Other than that, they were much cheaper than Tempurpedics and good quality spring mattresses.

After sleeping on memory foam, I've found it difficult going back to regular beds. I absolutely hate sleeping at hotels now as even the ones with good mattresses I still wake up with pain.

Re: Need a new mattress!?!?!?

I switched to a Select Comfort bed back in '96 after I blew out my back. 12 years later, it feels the same as when I bought it, and the dual adjustment is a godsend for those who have a spouse/SO that prefer a softer/firmer mattress.

My $0.02,
Tort

Re: Need a new mattress!?!?!?

The BOB-O-PEDIC sounds really interesting but the price difference makes me a little concerned. I might have to drive up there to try one out.
