So I am sitting there, eating lunch when BOOM!!!!! (pics)

Grabbing a gyro sandwich at a local restaurant (Burger Basket at Bowen and Division for DFW members) when it started to rain with pea sized hail with lightning all around. There was a super bright lightning strike and a loud crack and a huge ball of flame from the transformer substation across the street..

Got a few pics:

This was just before it blew up again, by the time I got my camera phone reset for another shot, I missed the huge ball of blue flame and the fire was out.

It may be on the news tonight. Maybe you can sell your pics to the Associated Press.

I was sure hoping for some of the wet down here in the valley but it doesn't look like it. Those are darn good pics for a cell phone!

Re: So I am sitting there, eating lunch when BOOM!!!!! (pics)

Lightning is no joke. Last year, my wife was driving one of our cars through a thunderstorm. A sharp bolt of lightning actually struck our car as she was going about 50 mph, and immediately disabled the car. She said it sounded like a transformer blowing when lightning hit the car. Long story short, the lightning hit the antannae (it was a metal antannae, and the lighning actually fried the metal antannae and bent it over), then traveled through the car, and exited out the back (there was a small hole, that looked like a bullet hole with a burnt area around it where the lighning exited).

The lightning fried the stereo, speedometer, PCM, ECU, several wiring harnesses, windshield wipers, and many other things. The car ended up being declared a total loss. My insurance company said they have seen cars hit by lightning before - I had never heard of it happening before myself.

Glad to hear you're ok Scott. I've been in the DFW in many different times of the year and you can have that kind of weather. Should I throw in a "Sure glad I don't live in Texas"? I'll take the snow thank you very much.
