Re: Blue Ray vs HD-DVD

So Sony did their homework this time and it sucks?? How many times have they lost a format war? What exclusive rights are you talking about? Why is it bad that the PS3 might just be the best player? You sure get a lot for the money if that's the case.

+1. I've been waiting for things to shake out before adding one to my projector. Now I'm off to AVS to read up.

Re: Blue Ray vs HD-DVD

I'm glad I waited for the HD war. I still prefer to get a up-convert DVD player since the HD movies cost too much. An up-converted movie on the OPPO player looks satisfactory to me on my 61" 1080i HDTV.

does an upconverting DVD player make much of a difference? my mitsu 1080p DLP upconverts any signal to 1080p, so I've always wondered how much of a difference I'd notice.

I also agree with you that the new HD movies (either format) still costs too much per movie. I'm pretty happy already with DVD quality, so the price premium right now for me doesn't justify the cost. Hopefully the prices for movies will come down significantly.

The OPPO up-converting DVD player does a really great job at up-converting SD DVD to near HD DVD. You'd probably would know the difference if they were side by side. Most good quality up-converting DVD players will do this but the OPPO does a much better job.
