Join Date: Nov 2007 Posts: 342 | Camera Thread!! Okay, so I went to Best Buy today and got a gift card for a camera I got for Christmas that took horrible pictures (see my bullit thread in C&B). I already have 2 20 dollar ones, plus the $168.00 one I got today from the camera. While I was there I looked at a few cameras. Fuji: f50 Kodak Easy Share: V1253 Kodak Easy Share: V1253 12.4 MP - whats the difference? same price. Nikon Cool Pix S51 Canon PowerShot 8.0 MP Canon PowerShot 8.0 MP 2 Whats the difference? is it worth the 50 more dollars?
Does anyone have experience with any of these cameras? Which should I pick and why? I'm looking for the most bang for my buck, I was going to pick up the 350 dollar Canon today while I was there, but I wanted to make this thread first to see if I could get a comparable camera for less money, because 350 is pushing my budget.
How come most of the cameras in the 2-300 dollar price range are 8.0MP then all of the sudden there's a couple of 12 MP in the same price range, that confuses me.
I'm not too sure about getting another Kodak, since I had such bad luck with this last one (Easy Share m883)
Anyhow, happy New Year and thanks for any information that you'll give me!

It's 7.1mp, good enough for detailing shots.

But I love the camera, I had a real nice when it came out sony dsct1 for about 3 years and just wanted a new camera, alot going on, so you have to read the owners manual, but i guess that is what it is for... I am conpletely happy with it.

I have an S3 IS and I really like it, the best thing about it is the 12x optical zoom!!! It takes great pics, has image stabilization. They just came out with the S5-IS, it's a bit nicer, I think the only real change was the bump in megapixels from 6-8. In all reality, unless you plan on turning your photo's into huge posters, you don't need anymore than 6 megapixels...
Since the S5 is out, you should be able to find a good deal on an S3.

i see you noticed the new v1253. the other one that you thought was the same was actually a v1233. theres also two colors. i just picked up the new kodak Z812 IS. all 3 of these new kodaks come with the ability for recording HD (720P) video. only digital cameras on the market that can currently do this. thus i went with the z812. 12x optital zoom, 50x total. great quality. i was originally looking at the canon s5 IS as well, but when i saw the price, saw that this camera had HD videos with near identical specs on zoom/megapixels etc. i went with the kodak.
for some reason costco currently has it online only for $200 when its about $280 at best buy, but either way its still a great camera for your money. test it out in the stores im sure you'll like it.
heres a pic i just took with it this morning http://autopia.org/forum/hot-tub/706...ml#post1053669
edit: correction best buy just changed their price again to $237. Kodak - EasyShare 8.2MP Digital Camera - Z812 IS

I was not suggesting to go that route but was giving my general experience with Canon. My prior cameras were Sony point and shoot and had no problems. Good luck.

My first camera was a EasyShare DX4530 and I will say this thing still works after being dropped twice and countless number of pictures it has taken in the almost 4 years I have owned it. There are some issues that I started before it was dropped both times.
I am a nikon kind of guy. I currently own both A 35mm SLR camera and on the way I have a Nikon DSLR D40X. As far as I am concerned its all in which brand you like more. Cannon and Nikon are both great camera's!
