HD Protect Review

I was lucky enough to be able to do a review of HD Protect Vinyl, Leather, Rubber and Plastic Conditioner

First off the package came with the Protect itself, a Duo interior applicator, and a pack of eco-wipes.

The applicator has two sides, red and white, were the red side is used to apply the product and the white side is used as a scrubber or to clean the vinyl, leather or plastic. Between the two layers is this dense foam which lets almost no product absorb into it thus you use less.

I compared HD Protect to my current favorite 1z Cockpit Premium.

On to the pics!

Here is the bottle and Duo applicator:

My dirty dashboard:

I cleaned my dash with Meguiars APC cut 10:1 using the white side of the applicator and wiped away with a MF:

I applied 1z on the left and HD Protect on the right, the top was left bare to compare:

I let both 1z and Protect sit for about 15 seconds then buffed each side, with the tape in place. After removing the tape this is what I saw:

As you can see the Protect side made the dash a little deeper looking, yet it was not shiny but still the matte color. The 1z side looks like nothing was applied. This is one of the reason 1z has been my favorite so far because of that.

Close up: (Again 1z on the bottom left, Protect bottom right, and nothing on the top)

Just to see how it would be if i used a MF and buffed the whole panel, I did so and the sharp line obviously went away but you can still see the darkening effect of Protect kind of.

Then I moved to using it on apart of my leather seat to see how it works. So I cleaned the leather with APC and applied Protect to the lower half and top half was kept natural. Product was buffed about 15 seconds after application:

So my conclusion:

I think this is a great product, it smells great and leave a nice finish behind. It has a darkening effect but does not make it shiny or sticky at all, which is a must for me. The smell of the product is great, has a leathery smell to it but is not overpowering.

One downfall is the spray, it is a stream and not a spray but Dave has said he has gotten new spray heads. But I think this may turn into my 1z replacement. I will see how it holds up and after I put a layer down on the whole dash. But from the looks of it 1z Cockpit may of been shafted for duty on my soft touch plastic for cleaning and gauge lens cleaning duty.

Re: HD Proect Review

Nice review just need to fix the title

I'm waiting on payday to order me this set heard great things about it. I currently use 303 Aerospace and love matte but 303 doesn't bring the "deep" out.

Re: HD Proect Review

I am also a fan of 1Z Cockpit Premium. I love it's light cleaning ability and smell. Very fresh. The product is, however, very light on conditioner.

What I would love to see is a side-by-side of two products over 1-2 weeks showing dust build-up. HD PROTECT has excellent anti-static qualities.

Very nice writeup and pics. Thank you!

Thanks for letting me review the product, I am very happy with it. I will try to post up pics after a week or so to see how it looks.

I think with a new sprayer like you said in the other thread this will be a home run.

Re: HD PROTECT Product Review

I could never figure out why 1Z CP gets such great reviews, not much of a cleaner and I doubt that it leaves much protection. Just an over priced middle-of-the-road product. And yes I do have the LARGE container of it.

I have not found one of those with the correct length tube in silver yet.

Re: HD PROTECT Product Review

Just have to come back to this for a second. It's been over a week now and my dash is still looking good and still dust free. This stuff is simply amazing with it's properties. I already feel it's better than 303 by a long shot and my usual meg's HD is finding itself being pushed to the back burner more and more. I haven't had the chance to try out any other HD products but David you guys scored a huge homerun on this one. It will be in my arsenal for a long time to come. I will chime back in after a month and see what a good solid month of windows down driving does for it. Real daily driver testing.

Re: HD PROTECT Product Review

I just got my sample and did some of my desk chair, its amazing stuff, and the smell is fantastic.

Should have a detail next week where I can try it out in a real world application, along with the HD TOTAL I bought.

Re: HD PROTECT Product Review

It does smell great, hmmm Dave what about a HD PROTECT scent air freshener? haha. Not for the car as the scent last a decent time but for my room, hehe.
