HD UNO & a Lexus

When I arrived in the shop ready to work, I was surprised by a delivery from UPS. It was the HD UNO Total Auto polish sample that finally made it from DavidB. Karma is funny how it works because on this same day I had a Midnight Blue 2007 Lexus 350 ES scheduled for just one of our regular full details.

This car came to us after sitting out in a yard for about two months. For an idea of how dirty this car was, this picture shows the clay after just a ¼ of the hood was done.

The HD UNO does not excite the senses with looks or scents (I mean it is a polish for goodness sake). It’s texture is almost as smooth as baby lotion. By just feeling it you would never think that it could do anything more than bring a little gloss back to a dry looking clear coat. However, as you are about to see, this polish can do some pretty hefty work while just using a DA polisher.

After finishing the prep work, we inspected the Lexus just to see if we had a good real world testing bed for this product. This car did have some deep swirls and also some RIDs that I would probably just try SIP or maybe even #105 with a rotary depending on the paint's hardness. However, this time I was interested in seeing what this product could do. I took the Meguiars G110 out of its case and got it ready. I cleared a section and set up a 50/50 to test the HD UNO polish.

On the first interval of 5 passes at speed 6 with some pressure, this product really impressed me. The product had a non-stop working time, no dusting, no slinging, and very little product needed to do a large section. In many ways it reminded me of Optimum II Polish. After doing the first interval, I just had to clean up minimal marring and I easily accomplished it with doing a second interval of 5 passes using the same pad and stepping the speed down to 3. Once you do your IPA wipe down, you find that the results are true and WOW!! The finish is fantastic.

50/50 - 1st interval (5 passes)

50/50 - 2nd Interval (5 passes)

Right Side (untouched)

Left Side- final

This product is user friendly; the only issue that I had with it, which is common for most polishes that can cut like this, is that is does not easily wipe away from the panel using a soft MF. Using a QD or IPA however will quickly fix this issue.

I am interested in seeing how the HD line will be received in the pro market. Depending on the bulk pricing of this product I know that it would have a sure spot in my arsenal.

I still have some other test that I want to conduct with it, like using it with the regular PC, the Flex, and the PC XP (when Got Leather comes to the shop with his). But based on this test I would expect most of the resultd to be spectacular.

Oh and back to the Lexus itself…. here is a reflection from a polished panel.

And here are pics of the rest of the car.

Thanks DavidB for the sample.

We had a hood painted to test UNO on fresh paint. We asked the painter to add additional hardener and put on a double clear. The paint is very hard. After a week you could no longer mar it with your fingernail. UNO loves it! The harder, the better.
