I've been a "lurker" for a while and have read and searched thru several threads already

I have a Red Dodge Ram

that I have mainly used the Meguairs 3 step to clean, polish and wax

Also have used Meguairs GOLD and the "Show Car Glaze"

What would you recommend for a nice glossy look on RED paint ?

NXT is a one-step cleaner wax. To properly prep the surface before application you should probably clay, then, depending on the condition of the paint, use a product like #80 or #83 and a rotary or pc if you have access to one. There are tons of good products out there though, the Klasse twins seem to produce amazing results as well as VM and EX-P among others. It just depends on what you like. I have a red '85 Toyota on which i use #83, #80, NXTx2, S100. I love the depth and clarity this combo produces on my truck.

For bright red and dark colors, try Menzerna FMJ. Medium to light colors? Other protectants like Zaino or AIO may work well.

My wife's Subie Forester in bright red + FMJ is VERY nice. Check out the Red Mini about 1/2 way down in this page:

FMJ is pricey, but easy to apply.

Dan.

I'd clay and apply #80 followed by NXT (x2) 24 hours apart. If you are really anal try topping NXT with #16 or #26.

Excellent plan if you want to stick with all Meguiars products. :up

I'd stick with Meguiars to prep the paint, if you want to try other products as your final glaze and last step product, Poorboy's, Clearkote, Wolfgang, the Klasse twins and 4* UPP are all product lines I get excellent results from.

NXT is not a cleaner wax. It won't rid your paint of oxidation. As with any wax, the prep is key.

I apologize about that, I should have worded my reply better than i did. I simply meant that NXT tech wax has cleaners in it, not really a true cleaner wax. Regardless, i love the product.

nice truck you got there. gee, for red, wow, there's like a lot of products that would make your truck look great.

this is my bro's ranger with EX w/caranuba and Natty's paste wax.

it probably look nice if you do 2 coats of EX w/caranuba, and 2 coats of Natty's. i think NXT would be nice too. either way, i don't think you could go wrong with ANY product on red.

This open-ended question has a LOT of possible answers. :)

What kind of products you should try next depends on a lot of things. If you want nothing more than the best gloss, that's fine, but often people have other decisions to make, like durability and how much work they are willing to put into it... It also depends on whether the paint could use any polishing or not.

BTW, :welcome

thanks for the welcome and all the response

(sorry, I originally posted this in the wrong forum - thanks for giving the new guy a break - LOL)

Good point about durability

Appreciate the help and everyones response

I agree NXT looks freakin awesome on red, I'll let you know how my car turns out.. I tryed a new combo EX-P followed by Meguiars #26, It was dark out so I couldn't tell how nice it came out.. I do know the paint was so slick it was outrageous

.....if you want to keep it simple, try using Meguiars Color-X, topped by NXT. I've just started using Color-X, and had gotten some impressive results with it. It's a moderate strength cleaner-wax with a polymer/wax blend protectant:

Direct quote from Mike Phillips:

ColorX contains some polishing oils so it's like three products in one, a strong paint cleaner, a pure polish and a blended wax, so it cleans, polishes and protects in one step. ColorX contains a diminishing abrasive, but it's not near as an aggressive product as something like a dedicated cleaner/polish.

So it does have some swirl removal abilities, and most of it's cleaning is chemically done, which makes it safe for routine use. With it's polymer blend protection, it makes a good base for NXT. Since both products are Consumer Line, the cost of getting both is only +/- $20. As mentioned by jfelbab, adding a topper of #16 approaches anal overkill...the #16 is a heavy wax that has been compared favorably to Collinite...insane beading for a long time.

Just my $ .02
