19" LCD Widescreen Monitor

My girlfriend told me since my 17" Sony Trinitron flat-screen CRT monitor bit the dust she'd replace my monitor as a graduation present. She gave me a budget of $300. I've been looking high and low across the Internet- newegg, tiger direct, Amazon.com... as well as at local stores such as Staples, Best Buy, OfficeMax, Wal-Mart, and Office Depot.

We went into Staples this morning and they had an Envision 19" Widescreen LCD flat panel monitor on sale for $229.99. The only other place I've managed to see them is at Amazon.com for $299 (plus shipping) and up!

Stats:
1440x900 Max. resolution
8ms response time
300 cd/m2 brightness
500:1 contrast ratio
anti-glare coating
wall mountable
3 year warranty

Only cons I can think of are that it does not have DVI and you can not adjust the height but the viewing angle. The displays at Staples really were pitiful- none of the monitors received a very strong signal so they all looked terrible IMO. Compared to what I was looking at, this is the only screen in this size with similar stats that I could even touch for the money.

I haven't heard/read much from the lesser known brands, but I've been extremely happy with my 17" Samsung (which came recommended from a couple PC forums I used to frequent). With that being said, I'd opt for the 19" Samsung from bestbuy for only $19 more than your budget. It has the DVI input you're looking for as well as a 1280x1024 max resolution.

Dunno how much that helps, but here's the link (i'm sure you've already looked/researched this particular model):

WSUcommuter,

You may already know about this, but Tech Bargains has a page devoted to LCD monitors and TVs: http://www.techbargains.com/cheaplcdmonitor.cfm

FWIW,
Tort
