Re: Halogen work lights at Home Depot

Anybody in VA have luck getting this lamp? I called my local stores in Richmond and they only have the 500w for about $25.

Re: Halogen work lights at Home Depot

It wasn't in my local ad, BUT I was headed there anyway to pick up some fluorescents for my garage and they had about 8 of them. I picked up 2. Thanks for the heads up!

Re: Halogen work lights at Home Depot

I can get roughly 8 more according to the manager at HD. I have 3 extras already. I'm extremely impressed w/ the quality for $20. No they aren't perfect but I don't think you could ask for more for the cost. Also, a positive comment for HD, they sold me 6 T8 fixtures all of which were missing hardware and only partially drilled, so when I had to drive all the way back tonight (an hour each way), they gave me a model that was $10 more each for the same price. Saved me roughly $60, more than enough to cover my gas. Kudos to Home Depot!

Re: Halogen work lights at Home Depot

I bought this thing many months ago. It's not even worth $20. The stand completely self destructed in about three months, so if you're fine with just having a floor light, go right ahead and buy it. if you want an actual work light, go invest in the real deal.

Re: Halogen work lights at Home Depot

Let me clarify, you cannot use this light as a baseball bat, sledge hammer, etc., but if you take care of it, I'm sure it will work just fine. If you throw any piece of equipment around/abuse it otherwise, it will EVENTUALLY wear out, the only difference is that more expensive units will take the abuse longer. For $20 I think the lights are a great deal. I've used them already and the stand is plenty sturdy for holding 2 halogen lights.

Mine just practically caught on fire.

Think I'll be returning it.

Interesting...I hate to give too much credibility to less-than-positive reviews (when the majority of people love their HD Halogens), but I do have to consider it...

It makes me wonder, though:
HD was/is selling massive amounts of those Rigid Shop Vacs for like $20-$35. A "steal"!
I picked one up, and the hose tore in 2 places after a few uses, and the while trying to attach the roller wheels, the plastic legs cracked.

I wonder if these things are so cheap because they really are cheap, and soon as HD realizes that, they put 'em up for pennies .

Those lights are POS don't waste your time they are only about 4 foot tall. Very unstable. I took mine back same day I bought it.

Re: Halogen work lights at Home Depot

Just to provide a little counter-opinion, I picked some of these up last week and just set them up last weekend.

I don't have anything to compare them to, but for $20 I am very impressed. Basically it was these lights or no lights, I did not choose them over one of the more expensive models. Yes, the build quality is less than stellar, and they are not super sturdy...but, they work. I have been having a really hard time seeing swirls on my metallic black paint lately, and this thing makes them painfully visible. I also think they will work as my space heater for my garage this winter!

Just my $.02, YMMV.

Gary

Re: Halogen work lights at Home Depot

I figured that was a pretty good deal and headed over to HD to buy the light.

I found the $19.88 1000w not near where the other lights were but up front by the checkout lanes.

I decided to go to the light isle and compare the lights with the others.

My "BIGGER IS BETTER" part of my brain took over and I bought a 1200 watt set up for $55 and a single 600 watt for $24 and change.

Here is the SWEET part - I found dual 250 watt (500watt total) on clearance for $9.76!!! I bought the last two.
