WTB: SLR Camera
Looking to buy a Canon or Nikon SLR camera. I have a Rebel Xti that just gave up on me with a error99 code, so I need to find a new camera. Ill do another Canon if the price is right, but I think I may be switching over to Nikon since this is the second Canon product to fail on me inside their first year of use.

Not an expert, but Nikon always looks special when I see picture here or DW. I will also purchase a Nikon next time.
Good luck.

Did you try troubleshooting error99?

To isolate the cause of the issue, we suggest that you do the following:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
Does the “ERR 99″ message appear? If it does, then the camera should be
serviced. If it does not, then please proceed to the next set of steps:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
Does the “ERR 99″ message appear? If so, then the CF card is the most
likely source of the issue. Try using a different card.
If the message does not appear, please complete the following steps:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the lens contacts by gently rubbing them with a pencil eraser
or soft cloth. Be careful that you do not let any debris fall into the
camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
If the “ERR 99″ message only appears when one particular lens is
attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.
If you see the “ERR 99″ with a different Canon lens attached, then the
camera should be serviced.

Re: WTB: SLR Camera
If you go with a Nikon be sure to get a vibration reduction lens. No more blurred shots & no more tripods.

Re: WTB: SLR Camera
Right now I use an 8mp Nikkon Coolpix8800 and it works flawlessly, however, I have convinced my wife to let me buy a new one for Christmas. I wanted one where I can add different lenses for zooms, wide angle, etc. Needless to say, I picked out the D90 from B&H Photo. I buy all of my camera's there (including my Sony Digital Video Camera that I bought last year). They have excellent customer service and are very competitively priced since they are a major distributor for the Northeast. Check out their website at B&H Photo Video | Digital Cameras, Camcorders
The camera that I want to buy comes as a package with the lenses, and can be found at this link:
Nikon | D90 SLR Digital Camera Kit with Nikon 18-105mm VR Lens

Re: WTB: SLR Camera
Canon will give you a refurb for a really decent price if you send your broken Canon in. Its called the Canon loyalty program.

Re: WTB: SLR Camera
I had a D40 and I loved that camera a lot. I now have a D90 and it is amazing.
On the XTI that you have, take out the battery, memory card, and lens off and install everything again. All DSLR's can have these glitches.

Full frame, just like D3, but not as big or heavy. Easier to carry.

Yes, I also cleaned all the contacts. The error returns every time, Canon has no real fix for the issue.
