Paint Thickness Gauge on Ebay $60
I am listing a new Harbor Freight paint thickness gauge on ebay for $60 buy it now, the bidding is already up to 40 for it. I got three when Harbor Freight quit selling them, I have one and its awesome, I've already sold one, and this is my last one. It's definitely the best deal ever for a thickness gauge. It is completely brand spanking new in the box, check it out.

Re: Paint Thickness Gauge on Ebay $60
overall how do you like this gauge? I have been wanting a PTG but the ones that are most commonly used are like $400+ A buddy of mine got one not very long ago and it was something like $800
What are some key features that you like about yours? What types of surface can be measured with this particular gauge?

Re: Paint Thickness Gauge on Ebay $60
This might be the inner n00b in me, BUT does the paint thickness determine what polishing method to use? Or what is the reason someone would own one

Re: Paint Thickness Gauge on Ebay $60
PTG is just used so that you know how much clear coat there is to work with so you don't risk burning through the lear to the paint.
If a car was repainted though you can tell as the readings are generally way different in certain areas

Re: Paint Thickness Gauge on Ebay $60
There are some crazy good deals on PTGs on eBay. I just got an ETG Mini for $70 shipped (lowest price new was 370). There was a $650 guage that just sold for 260. I would not buy one of these new. If you are looking for one eBay is the way to go.
The way that I understand PTGs is they are used to get an estimate of how much paint is left. This guage measures the paint and clear so that you have a general idea of how much you have to work with.

I don't think there are any PTG right now that measures just the clear coat. If I'm not mistaken, I think they measure the thickness from the bare metal to the clear coat, so you would have to estimate how much of that reading is clear coat, base coat, and primer. I wish they would invent one that just measures clear coat though.

FYI... please put your "For Sale" ads in classified, not Good Deals. Thanks!
Good Deals is for telling people about good deals you've found, not stuff you're selling yourself.
